And for a more serious post, I am so freaked out by the terrorist attacks in Lebanon. And, of course, disgusted that they're being praised as precise, coordinated strikes. No tf they were not. Like, let's go through this one bit at a time. I've seen a lot of ignoramuses claiming that the devices that were detonated were only in the hands of terrorists. Setting aside my deep distrust of Israel and the West's classifications for terrorism, it's not true. For one thing, there are reports of electronics stores being effected, which indicates that explosives were packed into consumer products. For another thing, Hezbollah is a legit political party in Lebanon and no matter what you think of their military, they do have civilian arms. The medical and emergency workers whose pagers blew up were non-combatants. Civilians. And even if it was true that only Hezbollah militants used the devices in question, the detonation was blind. No way of knowing who was holding the pager or walkie-talkies, who was in the buildings with the solar panels. No way of knowing where they were or who was around them. At least two children were killed. People were bombed while driving. I think some were on buses but I can't bring myself to double-check that right now. Imagine if someone had been on a plane?
The attacks themselves are bad enough but it's even more chilling to think of the fallout and the precedent this sets. People in Lebanon can't trust their own phones or tablets or laptops. They're struggling to stay in contact with loved ones because what if. This needs to be condemned, harshly and in no uncertain terms, but we all know that it won't be.
