Do you ever get upset learning about something from a series you don't even follow anymore?

Well, not a series in this case. A universe. It's been a long time since I really bothered with either of the Big Two. Comics are expensive, especially comics in a big shared universe with constant ~events~ meant to drag you through ten titles you don't actually care about to follow one story, and I fixed my focus on Transformers. Didn't help that things kept Happening that I hated and it was hard to ignore them and just stick to the titles I liked because of the aforementioned events. The MCU also made following Marvel comics irritating in that the suits simply refused to let them be their own thing and so the comics started to mimic them in very inorganic ways. It all just got too messy for too little emotional satisfaction at the end of the day.

Still, though, I've continued to enjoy hearing little bits and pieces of things going on. Seeing the best panels of a given story curated by other fans who were still invested, reading interesting meta posts that completely contradicted each other and having no basis to form my own opinion. That last bit probably sounds sarcastic but I genuinely do find it to be its own kind of fun. Anyway, one very fun development that I kept semi-regular track of was that a fan-favorite ship that I'd gotten onboard with not long before I washed my hands of the whole thing became canon. I still follow their tags on Tumblr, so I'll see cute or funny or just interesting posts about them every so often.

Lately, those posts have had a bitter edge. I found out through them that the ship had been sunk-- or is about to be, I guess? I'm not sure if the book confirming it is out yet. I was disappointed but my feelings on it were pretty low-key. I had gathered that not a lot was being done with them and so while I thought it was unfortunate they were being split already, some of what I'd seen suggested that a break-up story line could at least be an interesting development for them. Then I saw the snippet of interview where the writer mentioned they're going to be broken up. I say "going to be broken up" because it's going to have happened off-panel. And the one of them who will be featuring in this new book is, if I'm reading this right, going to have already gotten a new boyfriend. This would be lazy and annoying enough. But the reason that's been given for breaking them up makes no sense whatsoever. The writer says they're being broken up because they want to do a story where this character is separating himself from the X-Men and a recent event. Okay, um, the boyfriend isn't connected to the X-Men or that event except through him. Heck, this character wanting to separate himself from the X-Men is the whole reason these two even met and became friends! Also, one of his former X-Men teammates is on his new team it looks like?? So, just. What???

Idk, I know my opinion counts for dirt because I was not going to be reading this anyway, probably. I think every so often about getting back into a few titles that look interesting or trying to catch up with favorite characters but I haven't done that in the *mumblemumble* years I've been thinking about it. But, omg, I'm pissed, lol.

comics, yes all these tags are necessary, not that big a deal honestly, fangirl indignance, brb crying, i'm in paaain, brb screaming
