submersibles, yay!
I've been doing a little research on submarines and submersibles for a fic that I'm considering writing, and EEE! It's so cool. All of it. Did you know that the first submarine was actually created in 1775, and the Americans tried (and failed) to use it against the British in the Revolutionary War? Or that the bathyscaphe Trieste has gone almost 11 kilometers under the surface? Or that the Alvin was once lost under 600 meters of water for several months, and when it was finally brought up to the surface, the bologna sandwich inside of it was still intact? *bounces*
In an interesting coincidence, the Alvin is carried on a ship called RV Atlantis. Coincidence because the fic I'm considering is an Atlantis AU. It's a pity that I don't have the attention span to write it, or the technical knowledge to make it work. Because OMGSOCOOL!
