everything sounds the same old way

wooo. wooo? wooo.
sorry, it's hot, that's about as much excitement as i can rustle up right now.
i *hate* norwesters.
although, have you ever noticed that no matter how hot it is, tea is still amazingly refreshing? mmmm tea.
what have you been up to?
i haven't done an awful lot the last week, because i never tend to do very much at all.
i did go and watch a friend's bellydance performance on saturday night, which was amazing, and i think i'm in love with Tribal Fusion. i'm going to take level one bellydance at the beginning of next year, it looks like so much fun. :)
excitement of the week is, i have my cubicle! and it's the one i wanted. our grad room is basically two rooms seperated by a kitchen, print room and meeting room (that all open out either side), and my cubicle is on the side i've been working on as an Honours student - nobody's really segregated, but honours only gets a loong bench with computers, not seperate workstations. so the people in the cubicles are a mix of phds and masters students, and i'm really happy that i'm on the side i'm on because i already know everyone over there and get along with them well - i don't really know everyone on the other side, though now that i think about it i probably do know half of them anyway, but yeah. i'm really happy. it's a spot not everyone would like - away from the windows, near the doors and the kitchen and the print room, but i tend to zone out and i don't like sun, so it works pretty well for me. :) and now i get to decorate it! i bought new stationery as a present for myself, a black flocked stapler and matching magnetised paperlip holder. i almost got the holepunch to have the whole set, but one of the secretaries gave me one today anyway. XD and a footrest. and basically let me steal a computer. because it pays to be in there every day and always offer to help them carry things. :)
not that i did any work today, but hey. i did readings as prep for next year, which is what i do when i get bored of my summer research. which i need to start writing up. which is obviously why i'm reading for other things. :) once i get into the swing of it i'll be fine, but i'm not right now so every line is... agonising. i have basically no direction for this, other than to use everything i have and in my supervisor's words "write it so i don't have to". >.<' and knowing Patrick, that means write it so that he can reference it without having to read any of the lit himself, and explain everything in both a summary and in as much detail as i can squeeze out of my sources. sources which sadly contain statistics, which i am SO not used to integrating into my work. i mean, i can go through and summarize what's in written lit, but how am i meant to summarrize stats? he did say i would needs appendices. erk. yeah, i should get onto that tomorrow.
but it is turning out to be really good experience. i now know i can work every day on something i only have vague personal attachment to (they pay me!) and still get the same level of research out of it, and the same *enjoyment* of research. i'm just not quite sure how to start making some argument out of it. :/ (I'm studying the economic dimensions of Vietnamese New Years, btw. economics!)
come on Niki. you can do this. or at least Patrick thinks you can. after all, he gave you an A+ for your research thesis. XD

ANYWAY other than work stuff... um... i read a Pratchett book in two days. i'm struggling to not go out and buy stacks of them. i shouldn't be collecting books when it's likely i'll be moving in a few years. i need to be practical! which is why i also really want to go and buy the japanese cherry blossom perfume from the body shop. because i'm practical. *furtive eyes* hey, it would stop me using my wonderfully expensive Vivienne Westwood Libertine... XD

anyway. i should go. this is a long rambling textblock and you don't really want to read any more.
please to be sending me cool winds and a decent night's sleep.
