"What's that you're writing?"
Cate slammed her notebook shut and swiveled around in her chair to face Nick. "Nothing important. Just a grocery list."
Nick tried to peek at the black notebook she held against her, but couldn't make out any headers on it. "Didn't look like a grocery list. Looked like paragraphs. Long ones. Nothing at all like a list."
She hugged the notebook tighter to her chest. "I make detailed lists."
"Hmm." He made a move to walk away until he saw her move the notebook back onto the desk, and then he lunged back and tried to grab it away. He was too slow.
Cate clutched onto it and laughed. "Too slow, Harper! You can keep trying to read my notes about carrots and eggs. Have fun!"
Nick smiled at her and turned back down the hallway.
