Summary: A mysterious end at the top of a spiral staircase.
She opened her eyes. Right before her was was a grand staircase that spiraled up into the darkness. Charis blinked up at it for a moment and then put her foot gently on the bottom step. She took a breath and placed her hand on the smooth mahogony banister. One by one, she climed the stairs, her breath in her throat, till she reached the last one and paused.
With her head down, and her hand trembling a little on the banister, a million thoughts were racing through her mind. She wasn't sure what she would encounter at the top of the stairs, but she knew one thing, she would have to find out. Slowly, she raised her head.
She opened her eyes.
