Madeline didn't know where she was going when she stepped out of her house on that cloudy evening. The wind was blowing through the trees, and the leaves were mostly on the ground, and by the time she reached the end of her block the street lights had snapped on.

She was about to turn and continue on when something sparkled against the light and caught her eye. After she crossed the street and bent over to brush a leaf away, she discovered a gold ring.

She glanced around and then pocketed it before walking down the street once more.

Summary: Justin makes fun of Phil's science project. (Phil is 14, Justin is 12)

"And just what is that supposed to be?"

Phil spun around to face Justin, all the while trying to hide his project from him. "It's for school! Get lost!"

Justin did his best to peek around Phil's shoulders. "It looks like Kyle made it for some deranged art project. What are those Styrofoam balls supposed to be, anyway?"

Phil glared at him. "I told you to get lost!"

"I want to know what it is!" Justin scooted around the table to get a better angle. "Wait a minute, are those planets? As in the solar system?" He looked back at Phil expectantly, a laugh just waiting to erupt.

Phil glared at him for a moment. "If you don't get out of here in five seconds..."

"Oh, my God, it is, isn't it?" Justin let out a laugh and grabbed onto the chair for support. "This is hilarious!" he pointed to the blue ball. "Is that Earth? Oh, my God!"

Phil had had enough. He grabbed Justin's arm and pulled him away from the table. "Get out!"

"Wait, wait! Maybe I can help you!" Justin said, but it was too late. Phil had already shoved him out the door and shoved a chair underneath the doorknob so he couldn't get back in.

Phil looked back at his project and let out a sigh. It did look a little pathetic. Justin was probably right. But that didn't matter. He was counting down the years till he could move out of this hell hole.
