Justin didn't want to go to his ten year reunion, but when Adelyn had listed all the reasons why he should, he finally relented. With Adelyn on his arm, he had found himself on a boat on the Mississippi River on a June night, and looking good. Of course not quite as good as Adelyn, but that was to be expected.
After they had gotten their name tags and were walking along the deck to where the main venue was, Adelyn squeezed his arm.
"Hey." She leaned up to speak softly into his ear. "Have you seen anyone you recognized? You haven't said hello to a soul yet."
Justin put up his chin. "Maybe one or two, but no one worth mentioning." Hadn't he already told her that there were more people he didn't want to see than people he wanted to?
They had just reached the bar, when a perky blond woman stepped in front of the them.
"Oh, my God, Justin Taylor? You sat in front of me in Math class! I think I copied all your answers!"
He tried to glance down at her name tag without making it obvious. " Oh, right! Linda Wells. Nice seeing you again!
But Justin barely saw her because behind her stood the one person he was most dreading to see, and the smile disappeared from his face.
Keith looked exactly the same as he had ten years ago. Keith's eyes met Justin's, and he approached him.
Adelyn had pinched Justin's arm, but she wasn't able to convince him to walk away.
