Title: I Heard a Rumor
Prompt: I Know It’s You
Current/Past: Current
Word Count: 285
Rating: PG
Original/Fandom: Original: Locked Inside
Pairings (if any) None (mentioned Nick/Vanessa)
Warnings (Non-Con/Dub-Con etc): None
Summary: Nick's Hollywood friend, Duncan, grills him on what he was doing for so long in Minnesota.

"So, you've been gone a long time."

Nick looked over at Duncan, who was gazing at him from the top of his latte with cool blue eyes. "Yes," he said slowly.

"I can't imagine what you were doing in Minnesota for several months. Didn't you... you know, miss LA? Miss Vanessa?" Duncan set his latte down and leaned back in his chair.

"My father had a lot of... unfinished busniess, I guess you could call it." Nick sighed and then picked up his own coffee, letting it warm his hands. When he looked back up, Duncan was staring at him.

"I heard a rumor," Duncan said.

Nick sniffed.

"Something about a funeral home."

Nick set his coffee down and looked away. "Well, I won't lie," he said. "My dad was a mortitian. So is my brother, actually."

It was quiet for a moment. Nick could hear the wind in the trees above them on the patio.

"And you?" Duncan asked.

"What about me?"

"You said you were taking care of your father's unfinished busniess. I'm assuming it had something to do with the funeral home."

Nick cleared his throat. "A little. I guess." He sipped at his coffee. "Can we talk about something else?"

"Sure, whatever." Duncan waved his hand at Nick.

"It's a little hard to explain," Nick said and tried to relax a little in his seat. Man, was it ever hard to explain. If he had thought telling people he prepared dead bodies was a little awkward before he became famous, telling them now was near impossible. He started to imagine the headline on the cover of one of those gossip rags and almost felt faint. "Maybe later," he said.

"Mm Hmm."

Title: Is That Really You?
Prompt: Mistaken Identity
Current/Past: Current
Word Count: 177
Rating: PG
Original/Fandom: Original: Locked Inside
Pairings (if any) None
Warnings (Non-Con/Dub-Con etc): None
Summary: Nick pretends he's not himself.

"Oh, my God! No way!"

Nick didn't lower the paper he was reading in front of the small coffee shop in his hometown and let out a sigh.

"Nick Harper, is that really you?" the girl looked fresh out of high school and had bouncy blonde curls around her ears.

"Oh, no, you must be mistaken." It was the first thing he thought of to say, and then he immediately regretted it. She probably knew that he was from Crosby. But instead of giving himself up, he went on with the charade. "My name is Tim. Tim Parker."

She drew her brows together. "But... you look just like Nick Harper."

Nick shrugged. "Sorry."

"And his family lives right down the street from here..."

He shrugged again.

She stared at him for what felt like ages.

Nick could feel a few beads of sweat forming on his brow. Was she buying it? He rumpled his paper to break the tension. "Look, if you don't mind..."

"Oh!" She took a few steps away. "I'm sorry."

He raised the paper back over his face. Nowhere was safe anymore.

Summary: Kyle reflects on his last day of sophomore year.

Two more years seemed like a really long to Kyle that summer morning of his last class of his sophomore year of college. When he walked back to his dorm the last time that year, he couldn't imagine doing it for two more years, and did his best to hold back a groan.

School was definitely not for him.

On the bright side, he had three months of summer vacation. On the downside, Nicki would probably make him work full time. What a bummer.

"Kyle!"

He turned around to see his buddy, Devin waving by the cafeteria and he altered his course. "Hey!"

"I hear there're tacos at the cafe!" Devin called.

Kyle hurried over.
