Thank you homage/giftfic/Gedankenexperiment:

"Makeup Session"

"You want me to do *what*, Ritsuka-kun? Your connection's terrible."

Ritsuka glanced furtively around him and huddled closer to the sheltering tree in the park. "I want you to make me up like a girl. It's a surprise."

"Oh." Yuiko paused for a stunned second. "For Soubi-san?"

"Um. Yeah."

"Oh, Ritsuka-kun! He'll LOVE that! Come over to my place and I'll get my stuff ready. No one's home, so I can teach you the basics without anyone else catching us."

Yuiko hung up in a fit of happy giggles, and Ritsuka smiled to himself. Her cheerful enthusiasm for almost everything never failed to lift his spirits. She was the best straight girlfriend a gay boy could have.

--

Yuiko's room smelled of strawberry perfume and hair products. She took Ritsuka firmly by the shoulders and set him down at her boudoir in front of a large mirror. She snapped on all the lights and put her cheek next to his, frowning at his image in the mirror. Her ponytail tickled his ear as she leaned forward and rummaged through the lipsticks.

"Wait," Ritsuka said. "Are you putting your own lipstick on me? That's loaded with your germs." I sound like my brother, he thought.

Yuiko snorted. "Don't be silly. I'm gonna test the color on your hand first, then we'll know what to buy." She swiped a dark red line across the back of his hand before Ritsuka had time to object, then held it up to his face. "Damn. I thought that would go really well with your dark hair and eyes, but it just looks..."

"Tarty?"

"Yes. Do you want tarty?"

Ritsuka felt himself warm at the thought, and shifted in his chair, hoping Yuiko hadn't noticed. "I was hoping for 'alluring' rather than 'tarty'."

"Soubi-san's an artist, he'd notice if you were wearing something too strong. Another guy wouldn't even be able to tell the difference. Here, this is my favorite."

"Enh. Kinda orangey on me."

"Yeah, I think it looks really good on me, but my skin tone's different. Let's try something else."

"What the hell is that, distilled essence of cherry? I want to seduce him, not suffocate him."

"Oh, shut up. Hold your nose and see what you think of this one." Against his objections, she smeared the side of the tube on his finger and rubbed the gloss on his lips.

"If you poison me with artificial cherry, he'll never forgive you." Ritsuka licked his lips and shuddered.

"Remember your Nietzsche? If it doesn't kill you, it'll make you stronger, and that makes a happy Soubi-san. Stop smearing your lipgloss and tell me what you think."

"It's...not bad." He leaned forward to the mirror. The shimmering gloss enhanced his mouth without overwhelming it. He unconsciously touched his finger to his lip in wonder.

Yuiko smacked his hand away and smiled. "I think we have a winner. Now for your eyes."

"Oh, god no."

"Oh for heaven's sake. You asked me to do this, remember? You can't just do your lips and forget everything else, you're not twelve anymore. Let's try this, to open your eyes up a bit..."

"Ow!"

"Quit flinching."

"That's...oh. Oh. Wow." Ritsuka's eyes looked somehow wider, both innocent and knowing. The dark eyeliner made him feel exotic, a temple dancer from Ancient Egypt, perhaps. "I can't wait to put this stuff on Soubi's face. Oh my god."

Yuiko kissed his cheek, a quick peck. "There is nothing, *nothing* sexier than a guy in eyeliner."

"Really. Does Yayoi-san know that?"

A wicked laugh. "Not yet. I'm waiting for him to figure it out. Now close your eyes." He shut them obediently and felt the curled brush flick against his eyelashes, several coats.

Ritsuka blinked experimentally, his lashes feeling oddly sticky. "Good thing I don't wear glasses. I'd get mascara all over them."

"Soubi-san will not be able to keep his *hands* off you, Ritsuka." Yuiko quickly dusted some blusher over his cheekbones, then stood back. "There. Tell me what you think."

(continued)

Ritsuka scrutinized his face in the mirror. While he'd attained pretty much his full growth at seventeen, his face had retained a chiseled delicacy of feature that was almost androgynous. The subtle face and mouth makeup enhanced that look, giving him an ethereal, faerie cast. The heavy eye makeup brought out the startling dark contrast of his irises and added a sultriness that kept him from appearing too childlike.

He took a deep breath. "I think that'll work. Thanks, Yuiko."

She nodded, suddenly serious. "I think it will. Here, let me write down the names of the cosmetics, then you can get your own."

"Okay." He took some tissues and wiped off the most obvious traces of makeup before getting up to leave."

"Ritsuka-kun?"

"Yeah?"

"Go get him."

His last sight as he turned and waved goodbye was Yuiko's happy smile.
