I tend to agree with teka on this. I think Yuiko is there to act as a balancing factor in Ritsuka's life, to give him something besides the Fighter/Sacrifice world, sorta like Kio does for Soubi, as much as Soubi will allow him to, anyway. That episode in the anime where they go to Yokohama is a perfect example. I actually really liked how they developed that in the anime. I love the ending when they're all praying in the temple, that's such a beautiful scene (and everyone looks so sexy!), and Ritsuka's comment, about how he loves everyone, is so genuine and such a revalation for him. He comes full circle, from the beginning of the anime when he's sitting there going... suki... suki... and he can't understand what it is, or why people say it, especially to him. By the end of the Yokohama episode, he comes to a whole new understanding, which is SO GOOD for him.
The "normal" people in Ritsuka's life give him something very important that he's never had - friends and family. People who love him for who he is, rather than being karmically attached in some weird way. I didn't really like Yuiko as a character until she showed up with those damned flowers, then I loved her to pieces. Ritsuka really, really needs her, and not as a potential Fighter, and not as a girlfriend, either, but as someone who genuinely cares for him as a person. As himself. I think it would ruin it if Yuiko got dragged into all of this mess. Ritsuka needs SANITY in his screwed up little world. He needs someone who's biggest concern in the universe is a smashed jar of strawberry jam. If everyone in his life is pathological, he's never going to be able to heal. I personally would be really disappointed if his Fighter (ahem, "the Loveless Fighter", as we all know Soubi is Ritsuka's one and only Fighter) turned out to be Yuiko.
I'm ridiculously happy every time I see that icon. I'm terribly glad that you like it.
I was definitely playing devil's advocate here and just more or less jotting down my thoughts that had occurred to me.
I really really would just die and cry and weep and wail if it was anyone ever than Soubi. It just has to be him. For both their sakes.
I was just thinking about what would make them both really stable.
I liked her on occasion but she is (as someone else pointed out) rather tiresome because there's so many of these ditzy overgrown girl characters running around in anime and once you've seen Sailor Moon - you really don't need to see this again.
I LOVED the visit to Yokohoma from Soubi tailing after Ritsuka but not texting or emailing him and Ritsuka fretting over why he hadn't sent any message. Then him spying on Ritsuka and getting the wrong idea. My FAVORITE part, other than everyone in their sexy outfits and praying - was Soubi dashing off to grab Ritsuka's hand and take him back on the Ferris Wheel "You want to kiss someone, kiss me" is what I thought the subtext of that ways.
*makes Ritsuka kiss Soubi a hundred times*
I do agree. He needs sanity. He needs people not trying to make him be whatever he was but accepting him, liking him, loving him for himself.
I envision a happy future where these people, even Kio, even Sensei, even Yayoi are all part of their group. Their life that isn't F/S.
I even kind of wonder, will they stop having to fight at some point?

You know, at this point in the story, I don't think it can happen any other way--Ritsuka and Soubi are meant to be together, and they've chosen to be together. Ritsuka doesn't care much for the rules of the F/S world anyway, and Soubi's been defying them for the whole of the manga, so...
Even if Ritsuka has another Fighter, I think Ritsuka would deny their bond. Ritsuka's big on free will and personal choice, so he wouldn't just release Soubi because his "true" half showed up. This other Fighter would also be a complete stranger to Ritsuka, and we've seen how naturally suspicious and cold he is to strangers.
Plus, we're now seeing that Soubi is starting to believe in the depth of Ritsuka's feelings for him. I think he's finally going to be able to trust that Ritsuka will not abandon him like every other person in his life--especially not because some higher power has shaped their destinies in such a way. Ritsuka just isn't that type of person.
But yeah, if all my guesses are wrong and Kouga does throw in a new Fighter, I'll be right there with you, falling into hysterics. It would break my heart to see Soubi's heart broken in such a way. And I don't think he could live through another abandonment. :(
It would absolutely kill Soubi to lose Ritsuka, no doubt about it. Though maybe by the end of the series he'll be in a place where he can grieve and move on, rather than literally or metaphorically jump in the grave with Ritsuka.
But damn, I really hope that doesn't happen! I so want to see Ritsuka and Soubi happy together, in whatever way works best for them.
