If my scale is to be believed, I am five pounds heavier than I was in February. My clothes are at the edge of being comfortable. Last week I carried additional four pounds of water weight during my period. I was seriously concerned last week about having enough outfits to wear to work. It was close, there. Thankfully that water weight dropped off over the weekend, and I can once again fit into my usual button down blouses.
Add that five pounds to the 20 that I tried (and failed) to lose last year, and I have some work to do. On the plus side, I have figured out a healthy diet for myself that is a "steady-state" way of eating; that is, I neither gain nor lose weight as long as I stick to my usual diet. So that should help. It is only when I venture into the land of the American diet that I find myself gaining weight.
I got on the elliptical trainer three days in a row early last week for about 20 minutes each time. I always forget that the elliptical is a full-body workout. Um, okay...three days in a row is definitely too much. I'm too out of shape right now. See, this is where personal trainers can come in handy. They (if they are good) keep you from being overly emotional in your workout and overdoing it.
I took a step back this weekend and came up with a workout plan for myself. Strength training, using an exercise band, exercise ball, and the PT exercises the chiropractor has given me, twice a week: once at her office and once on my own. I'll slowly try adding additional exercises as I get stronger so I will build up my full body strength.
Cardio on the elliptical for 15 minutes three times a week.
Yoga and qigong for relaxation and gentle movement, as I have been doing for the past couple of months.
We'll see how this goes. I really want to get back some fitness. Of course, I already screwed up by adding a set of side crunches to my strength training yesterday, using my exercise ball. I only did 10 on each side, but I am quite sore now. I am so sick of having to baby my muscles!
*sigh*
Tonight: hot bath and yin yoga to work this out. I'm glad I'm getting a massage this Thursday.
