My cat Patches has been feeling a bit poorly of late. She’s been favoring her left forepaw, but wasn’t reacting when I palpated it. I figure it’s probably arthritis, but I also worry that it could be a neural problem related to diabetes, which could indicate a return of her diabetic symptoms.
I started giving her a glucosamine supplement a week ago to see if that would help her arthritis. It hasn’t had time to work yet.
Then about 3 days ago she quit being interested in breakfast. She ate fine at other times of the day, but not breakfast. And she was spending her nights under the bed, a sure sign she doesn’t feel well. This morning she ate, but then threw it right back up. Such food issues could be related to the glucosamine, to diabetes, or neither.
I started to worry and wonder, and began second-guessing what the problem(s) was(were). I decided to schedule a vet appointment for Saturday. But they were booked for Saturday, and the next available appointment was for Tuesday afternoon. There was a cancellation for today, though, so I took it. I had to leave work to get her, but I was worried enough that I decided it was worth it.
The vet agrees that the problems with Patches’ foot are likely arthritis. He prescribed an anti-inflammatory for that. As for her disinterest in breakfast, and this morning’s vomiting, he suggested I try OTC Pepsid. He took a quick glucose stick that looked normal. I asked him to also take a full blood screen, to catch any other potential problems. I won’t hear about that until later this afternoon.
So I guess she’s probably okay. I’m tired, though. I came back to work in order to get things ready for next week, and finish my time card for this week. By the time I get home tonight I will have spent 4 hours of my day in the car. Gah.
