I learned the Tibetan Five Rites, a sequence of five moving yoga asanas, from my meditation teacher some four or five years ago. Each asana is repeated 3 times when you are first learning them, and you work up to a maximum of 21 reps each. I have never gotten beyond doing 11 or 12 reps before getting a repetitive motion strain in my wrist and needing to back off. Practiced over time, they seem to open the heart, bring courage, and lesson fears and inhibitions. Right after practicing the Five Rites I usually feel calm and energized.
I haven’t done the Five Rites in over a year and a half. But this morning I was moved to renew the practice.
I found a YouTube video clip from some instructional DVD of the Five Rites so you can see them. Please excuse the cheesy quality of the video. Oh, and I do the exercises at about half the speed (or less) that he's doing them.
