Today is the first day of my vacation. I don't have to go back to work until September 5. We will be heading for Virginia on Saturday for a couple of days to visit my mother, brother and sister-in-law, and their two boys. This will be the first time I have met my newest nephew Kai, who is about 2 months old now.
I will miss the
Summerland festival this year, sadly. This is the first year since I think the second year of the festival that I won't be going. I'll miss seeing everyone, but it's not going to work out with my schedule this year, I'm afraid.
rfunk is working from my house now. I can hear him typing in the next room.
There are boxes scattered about the house. Many of them won't be able to be unpacked until we retrieve his furniture. Perhaps tonight though we can unpack one or two boxes that do have homes for their contents.
Other plans for the day include cooking and freezing some of the vegetables I got from the CSA this week. I'm seriously thinking about vegetable stew.
I am also planning a trip to the library in Newark (once I figure out where it is) to obtain a Licking County library card and a few books on cd for our drive.
rfunk is downloading podcasts. We'll be in the car for about 7 hours on Saturday, and the same on Monday. The return trip is 11 hours. We might break that up with a stop somewhere. But even so, that's a lot of time in a car.
The unaccustomed effort of painting and moving in recent weeks raised painful knots in my neck and shoulder. I have been using muscle rub at night and they are improved, but still sore. It finally occurred to me today to give them some heat/cold therapy, so I spent some time in the shower this morning alternating the hot and cold water on my shoulder. Sucks at the time, but it is really the only thing that brings relief when I have really persistent knots. I am hopeful that, plus the relaxation this break will bring, will restore my muscles.
