When I had the home inspection a couple of weeks ago I noticed that a couple of jacks had been put in the basement to help hold up the kitchen floor. The inspection report suggested that I have an additional structural inspection by an engineer. For peace of mind I decided to go ahead and do one; it was done yesterday.
The inspector took one look at the jacks and said that they weren't going anywhere and I had nothing to worry about. We took a look at the two barns, too. He noticed that the eves of one of the barns needs to be repaired, but said that they are both in good condition otherwise. He gave me some other suggestions, like pulling the ivy down from the siding and away from the foundation. But other than that he said everything was in good condition. So now I have had all the home inspections and they all said the house is in good condition. There's a few things to keep an eye on, but overall no major problems. Which is amazing considering the house is over 100 years old. Yay!!
I ordered an appraisal which should be done this week. I scheduled the closing for next Friday. That's right, I'll be closing on Friday the 13th. I find this amusing and appropriate.
