Well to its credit, coming from someone who isn't proficient enough to read the novels, I have to say unless it's being watched by someone who hasn't caught the anime at all (especially the interaction with shizuo when they were young), Kasuka still feels pretty in character when he was playing an opposite personality on TV. I didn't see him as being unfeeling/angry at the boardroom since we've seen him behave that way since his childhood interactions with Shizuo and we know it's just the way he is, and not him throwing a tantrum.
But I have to admit, that bit about Novel! Shizuo and his interactions with the sisters didn't come across in episode 25 if it's the way you had described it. It does really seem to me that he can't wait to brush them off and find talking to them a chore of sorts (even if he doesn't hate them and was just being polite because Shizuo being the nice guy he is won't hit girls, haha). As for the sisters, naturally the 'Runs in the Orihara family' vibe was the impression that clicked... less on the psycho I think, more like a milder form of mischevious mayhem compared to their brother.
I'm actually extremely curious about the Orihara family's background and their interactions, since Izaya's family background was never animated
oh wow, I totally forgot Kasuka was originally introduced in episode 7. It's been a while since I watched the proper series, so I figured since Shinra was introducing the girls + kasuka to Celty, it was kind of like he was introducing them to us. I forgot we knew who Kasuka was and what he was like. You're right, it's more obvious what he's like then.
And the twins really are just mischievous little girls. While Izaya is usually a 'bad guy,' the girls are usually...uh, grey areas. They might inadvertently be the cause of some major dilemma, but they never intentionally hurt anyone (that didn't hurt them first) the way Izaya does. And they have a buttload of super weird quirks. I was surprised to see Mairu go all badass in that one scene; I didn't realize an Upgrade To Anime included gaining combat skills.
As for their family background, I hear that's actually kind of the hot topic in the latest novel...I am dying to know that too!!
