So I was watching te Real World: Phillidelphia a few weeks ago and one of the roommates, Willie, said that he used to be a kids' show called "Ghostwriter." I was was shocked. I thought I would never see anyone from that show ever again. Ghostwriter used to be an insanely cheesy show on PBS in the early '90s that attempted to promote literacy, but using a ghost that communicated with some New York kids entirely through writing. Of course, this group of kids was racially diverse, including the black guy Jamal, the white girl, Lenni, the Asian girl whose name I can't remember, the white boy, Rob, the Hispanic guy Alex, and his little sister, Gaby. They solved mysteries (rather trivial ones) with the help of Ghostwriter who could read anything anywhere (though it was never explained whether of not he could read any language other than English.) I specifically remember an episode where the Ghostwriter team caught and internet hacker!! And then there was the episode where they found out what the word "copyright infringement" meant and uncovered the scheme of a local shop owner that was illegally copying videos and burned down his own store to destroy evidence and collect insurance!! Damn this show was awesome!! I watched it every single day, repeats and all. PBS was my favorite channel when I was a kid because they not only had "Ghostwriter," but also "Square One" which was the greatest math show ever created. "Mathnet" was the best! Also PBS had "The Joy of Painting with Bob Ross." Bob Ross was the biggest hippy in the entire world, alway painting "happy little trees" and "happy clouds." Ah, the memories. Please, please, please continue to support the Public Broadcast Station...because I don't and someone has to.
Anyway, what was I talking about...? Oh yeah, so Willie is on Real World: Phillidelphia this season. He's one of two gay guys on the show this season. I remember when he played cute little Hector Carrero on Ghostwriter. What a fucking annoying kid. He came later in the history of the show when they got a new Gaby who was younger, extremely annoying, and looked nothing like the original Gaby. Anyway, it's funny to find out that someone you used to watch on TV as a kid turns out to be gay.
Damn I wish was watching Ghostwriter right now, followed by Square One where they taught me about negative numbers, palendromes and the "Magic Number 9" (times any number you can find, it all adds up to 9) through catchy songs.
PS. I almost forgot, there was also an episode of Ghostwriter where Ghostwriter travelled through time to read things in the past about the house that Jamal lived in. But travelling through time made Ghostwriter weak and he ALMOST DIED!! :-(
