I watched it tonight with my family and had to go change my Myspace layout to fit the opening theme; I'd been waiting for a song that struck me as sufficiently Fran to do a layout around her, and I found it. I was explaining Evangelion to my brother in my car earlier, because we were listening to Cruel Angel's Thesis and I said, "This anime is so fucked up." When I started talking about Rei and Lilith, and about the Angels, my brother was like, "Wait a minute, what?!" I haven't seen End of Evangelion because...well, honestly, everything I've heard about it has made me feel a little unwell, and I don't know if it would bring me a more satisfying conclusion to Evangelion. What d'you think?

But yeah, it's funny you mention that, because not only have I been watching Utena AMVs recently, but talking about Evangelion - and they're both truly demented shows in their own ways! I found Utena's brand of crazy a little more emotionally satisfying than Eva's, though. I'm not one for that Komm, Süsser Tod outlook; as we've talked about before, I've gotta be in the right mood to accept angst.

My mom watched Adolescence of Utena with me when I got it for my birthday, and concluded that she didn't want anything else to do with anime because she didn't understand it. It's one of those things your parents ignore, can't accept, or get into themselves, and both my parents have chosen to back away slowly and ignore anime from here on out.
