Asuka shows up shortly, looking even more angry than her default and stuffing her distinctive hair under a baseball cap that may or may not have been sitting in a room recently vacated by one of her enemies.

"Yo."

"Yo.'

Duo downed the rest of his soda and tossed the can out. "The next part can be a little uncomfortable, but it's short. C'mon."

He led her to the vent in the back and, after checking that no one else was around, yanked the cover off the vent, "Up we go."

"You first, I'm wearing a skirt."

Asuka's still pissed about the last time she had to lead the way through a ventilation system.

"Alright alright. Geez, what kind of guy do you take me for?"

As it so happens Duo probably would have peeked, but there was no reason for her to know that. Duo grabbed the edges of the vent and slipped in. It was only a few feet long, just passing through one wall (Why they didn't just install a window was anyone's guess.). In short order, he was outside the GDF tower with only a short walk to the city streets.

Never underestimate her paranoia when both Shinji and Toji Suzuhara are hanging around the base.

Asuka follows through with ease, being even smaller than Duo and nearly as acrobatic.

"And they haven't even got a camera on it. Jeez, I feel real secure."

"I probably should say something, but then I wouldn't be able to get off the base, and that place gets boring as hell after a few days of not being able to leave."

He started off into town after making sure Asuka was following, "So now that we've escaped, where do you want to go?"

"Hm..." Surprise, Asuka hasn't thought ahead very far! "I mainly just wanted to get some fresh air. Going to see any of my school friends is probably out...let's head to Shibuya and walk around there, I guess."

"Sounds like a plan."

And they were off, with thousands of faces streaming around them. If they got any weird looks, it was more from being obviously foreign in Japan then from being part of the GDF. Duo mused on this, "I think just being a face in the crowd is good for us. Focus on saving the world for too long, and you get in danger of becoming big headed."

"That supposed to mean something?" Asuka asks, but with a good-natured smirk on. It actually is a novel feeling to be, or at least pretend to be, normal for a little bit.

"Don't repeat this to anyone, but I actually like this town. Japan I can take or leave, but I always feel happier when I'm keeping something from stomping Tokyo." She catches a glimpse of a partly-demolished building, remnants of last week's mission, and her expression sours again. "And it annoys the hell out of me when I can't stop some asshole from doing things like that."

Duo snickered at her first comment, "With your right hook? Hell no, just musing out loud."

"Me, I get like that when we're up amongst the colonies. Maybe it's because that's where I grew up. Maybe it's because they have more to lose out there."

"They've got more to lose, or it's just easier to lose it when you're living in a pressurized can in space? Getting blown up or stepped on affects everyone pretty much equally," Asuka says, glancing at a shop window full of dresses. "Except Yamato, anyway."

Duo glanced around to make sure no one was getting too interested in their conversation "It's funny. We came out here to get away from all that stuff, but now that we're away, it's all we talk about."

He paused and thought for a moment, "Also, I suspect Kira has a cavern somewhere full of backup clones."

"Thaaat seems a little farfetched even considering that we fight aliens for a living," Asuka says.

"...and I guess even when we've normally got time off, my mind's still on the saving the world stuff. Man, when was the last time I did something for fun aside from hang out with Shinji or other idiots?"

"I don't know if hanging out with Shinji is my idea of a good time."

He laughed, "But if that's the case, then let's do something normal. There's an arcade right over there with probably a dozen games that don't have anything to do with giant robots."

"Freakin' Burning PT everywhere these days Alright, yeah, let's do it!"

Asuka heads into the arcade enthusiastically and picks out a fighting game before realizing she "forgot" her wallet and giving Duo an expectant look.

"It's not even that good of a game."

He gave Asuka a slightly annoyed look, but didn't make an issue of it since he was technically (Thanks to back-up funds supplied by Operation Meteor.) a millionaire. He somehow doubted this was what Professor G had had in mind, but he hated that old bastard anyway. He plunked a few coins into the machine and picked his character (Joke character, Godzilla knock-off with boxing gloves.)
