It's a gorgeous day today. It's about 55 degrees already, which for Seattle is summer weather. There's not a cloud in the sky. I'm driving to work, window open, enjoying the lack of rain, when I take a moment to notice the woman in the car in front of me. She's got her her windows closed and the fan or air conditioning on, and turned up so high that her early eighties-style Farrah Fawcett hair wings are fluttering in the significant breeze from her dash vents. Fascinated, I followed her for a while, admiring the constancy of the flapping hair. She must have had the blowers on as high as they could go. Hairstyles aside, it's amazing how we carry with us our own mini-climate in our cars. Warm, cold, humid, dry, smoky as an old bar; who needs the outdoors or weather when we can create our own climate in a five by ten foot space and drive it around? More to the point, on days like this, why would anyone want to breathe dusty reprocessed air when there's a whole atmosphere of sun-warmed air just outside the glass?

In the spirit of brand new creativity, I decided to try to change my LJ layout, only to meet with a distinct lack of success. Upon perusing communities dedicated to layouts and S2 styles and whatnot, I realized that I know so little about layers and CSS and styles, it's like handing a three year old a pencil and a Calculus book and asking them to write their own freehand Calculus problem and solve it. I can't even wrap my brain around the process to the point where I'm even able to experiment, yet. I think I need much more background in programming than I'm willing to put in at the moment.
As a result, I'm left with the basic system that I'm most comfortable with, Component, although I'm not satisfied with the way it looks, and there's no way for CSS-ignorant folks like me to easily change it. I'd choose Opal, except the font is far too small and I don't see a way to change it, either. *shrug* Perhaps it's worth it to start experimenting and learning how to code, or looking around for other examples from those willing to share. Or better yet, bribe someone to make one for me.
