Texas weather is schizophrenic! I'm about to turn on the AC in the middle of February, which wouldn't be that unprecedented, but the next few days are supposed to be very cold. Ugh!
Is anyone watching American Idol this year? I'm really loving Paris Bennett and Katherine MchPhee. They are the best in the girl's category. Mandisa did a great job, but she was kind of screaming throughout some of the song. Lisa is good, but not better than the other three. I definitely think that those four will make it to the end of the competition. I'm eager to the see the guys perform tonight! I'm totally rooting for Will Makar, my neighbor to the north.
Since The O.C. and Veronica Mars are both on a short hiatus, I won't get to share my love for them this week, or next! My only hope is that VM makes it to the new network, whatever they call it. (I'm referring to the merger between The WB and UPN, in case ya didn't know) Heather Havrilesky wrote a pretty funny analysis of The O.C. last year in her Salon.com column, "I Like to Watch". I think I can agree with her system. It's linked
here, but you have to get a day pass to read it.
It's days like today that I wish I had a housekeeper.
I'm slightly disturbed about the impending civil war in Iraq and the brouhaha over Dubai Ports. First of all, I think Congress is overreacting concerning the Dubai Ports deal. I can't say exactly what their motivations are, but I think I can make an educated guess. I don't see how Dubai Ports will be any different than other port companies--they will be subject to the same standards as everyone else, and maybe even more. The UAE is more terrified of the Islamic fundamentalists than any western country, they have much more to lose. The situation in Iraq is very troubling, too. I think it's so obvious that the bombing of the Shia mosque was meant to elicit this exact reaction, and hopefully lead to a civil war. I really hope that doesn't happen, it would be disastrous for everyone involved, including the US.
