Gettin back on the wagon

Jul 15, 2010 02:02

so i have been rather unproductive the past two weeks in terms of doing stuff around the house due to this damn cough that wont go away.  This annoying cough has had its time to shine and now i am just gonna let it fade into the background and get back to work.

in order to motivate myself i though i would show what work i did before the cough got me.

first i had a show at the theatre.  it was a big Taiko recital.  I love this group!  they are so nice and always bring us bentos haha

this was the Daruma that the show was centered around.  The Daruma is a great Japanese tradition based on the story of Buddha Daruma.  To cut a long story short, the Daruma doll is given as a gift.  When you get the doll it has no eyes.  What you do is you color one of the eyes when you set a big goal for yourself.  You can not color the other eye in until you have reached that goal so that everytime you see the one eyed Daruma you are reminded of your goal.  Pretty cool right?

this guy was about 4 feet tall and i saved it from being thrown away at the end of the show.  should have seen my moms face when i brought it home haha

one thing that is also fun about taiko shows is how being backstage during one completely resets your heartbeat.  the percussion is so loud that you actually feel it more than hear it but we pretty much have to have the cues down pat since we cant hear eachother on the headsets.  but it is still amazing to feel the power of these drums, much better than the blasted bass of stupid hiphop shows

here are the wee lil ones practicing for the show.  they look out of sync but they actually are together on the beats

k now on to the home stuff

just a lil project that i did.  the covering on the lights in our kitchen had been broken before we even moved in.  i went out and bought a sheet of textured light covering usually used on inset flourescents and just cut it up to cover the three lights we had.  little project but really helped spread the light not to mention cover the ugly exposed light..

and the big project that led to the cough.  only got a part of the yard done but it took a good bit of work.

the before with all the improved 'Keira Escape Proofing".  note the lil tree stump near the fence in the middle of the first pic, that bitch was dug in deep and became my sparring partner for over an hour.

and here it was after a day of tree and weed uprooting.  i also bought some red square stone tiles to put in as a barrier to keep the gravel, and Keira, from slipping under the fence.  i threw in some of the on hand stones to leave her some peak holes since she loves to watch the walkway out front.

then i treated the bare ground and laid out some weed cloth to keep those bastards from coming back.

and finally putting in something like 750 pounds of gravel in.  nearly broke my back.  pic was taken a few days after so Keiras toys and general mayhem had already spread on it.

WARNING:  apparently making drastic changes to a dog's enviroment can lead them to flip the heck out and stand in the corner for two hours shaking after first exploring the new area.   she is totally fine now but i didnt know she was gonna freak like that.

School starts in little over a month so i gotta put the pedal to the metal and bust the rest of this shit out before then because my schedule is crazy come fall.

OH, and i also did a little doodle for hp_canon_fest but you will have to wait till those lucky girls get back from Infinitus to see that.  Have fun girls.

until next time
