A hat tip to the Irish whose songs rule

I reworded "The Orange and the Green" in honor of my meeting with some amazing people today.

Song: The Orange and the Green
Author: Anthony Murphy

Reworked: Me with footnotes

Oh it is the biggest mix-up that you did ever see

Imma was in Meretz (1), Abba’s Bayit Yehudi (2)
1. Left wing party
2. Right wing party

Oh my father was Sephardic (3) who was born in Eli (4)

My mother from Ramat Aviv (5) and truly Tzehuvi (6)

Love had wiped the politics cleanly from their sights

Till I was born, and then came the first of many fights
3. Arab Jews, tend to be conservative
4. Right wing settlement
5. Left wing area
6. Europeon Jew, tend to be liberal

I was called Ben-Tzion (7) on the eighth day

My father took me to Hebron (8) for the party

That night post-power yoga, said with great aplomb (9)

My mother had a vegan meal and swiftly named me Tom (10)
7. Right wing name
8. Right wing settlement
9. Stereotype of people from Ramat Aviv, power yoga and veganism
10. Left wing name

Oh it is the biggest mix-up that you have ever knew
My father he was orange and me mother she was blue (11)
11. Orange represents the right wing settler movement
12. Blue is the left wing disengagement movement

With Imma to Rabin Square (12), signs in every hand

With Abba to Rabbi Riskin (13), to talk about the land

They both tried to claim me, but I was far too wise

I swiftly sold my opinion for a candy prize
12. Place in Israel known for left wing protests
13. Right wing speaker

When I marched Bennet (14), Abba crowed with joy

Imma loved to march for Gal-On (15), with her precious boy

I only broke away, so I could vote unseen

With my screwed up family, I surely voted green (16)
14. Right wing party
15. Left wing party
16. Party promoting marijauna use

Oh it is the biggest mix-up that you would ever see
My Imma is in Meretz, Abba’s Bayit Yehudi

Passover Imma’s family came round to visit me
Just as Abba’s cousins were all sittin' down to tea
We tried to smooth things over, but they all began to fight
And me being strictly neutral, I bashed everyone in sight

Oh it is the biggest mix-up that you have ever knew
My father he was orange and me mother she was blue

Now my parents could not agree, it was a blooming shame

And couldn’t even agree on what was my real name

But they made me a family, I learned from every one

Just how to argue, making me their Israeli son
