i got back at about midnight last night from canada. it was fun. i will run down my adventures and then post pics at a later date.
saturday: was supposed to try on bridesmaids dresses in the afternoon until i found out we had to go to BOWIE to pick up kevin's ski equipment and then be in Sykesville by 4. Had to skip the dresses, haul ass to kevin's parents and got to sykesville by like 4:30 or 5. had to wait for karl to bring the car to phil and cindy's house so we could pack it. packed up the car. ate dinner, toasted the trip, tried to watch zodiac. the trip gets under way.
got to canada around 4:30 the next day after stopping in massachusettes, connecticut, and vermont. unloaded the car and chilled before dinner. we were at a ski resort called owl's head in quebec... about 1.5 hours east of montreal. it was cold as shit.. i think the warmest it got all week as about 18 degrees farenheit. it also snowed the whole time. anyway, so yeah. dinner. dinner was included in our package and every night it was amazing. they gave us itemized receipts even though we didnt have to pay anything and dinner was around $30 per person every night. i had some really good soups, i had lamb chops, filet mignon with bacon, rabbit (which is gross) and some other goodies. good desserts too.
every night after dinner we would go back to our condo and drink/play games/watch movies/sleep. very relaxing. games we played include talisman, apples to apples, uno, and clever endeavor.
monday rolls around and phil drives me up to the lodge to rent my skis and boots. i get that all taken care of and we all suit up to get on the slopes. i havent skied in about 10 years and a lot has changed since then i suppose. to make a long story short, skiing sucks and i'll never do it again. i went about 20 feet and decided i hated it and turned my rentals back in. phil and i went down to the lake which we had a view of from our condo. it was all iced over and covered in snow. it looked amazing. it was lake mempremagog, and after doing a google search i learned that there is a fabled sea serpent in the lake. he was probably too cold to come out that day, though.
tuesday was a chill day. i napped, went into the next town, mansonville, bought some silly canadian candy, read.. you know, typical vacay stuff. phil and i also went to the bar at the lodge and played pool and talked to some locals. i also ate poutine. thankfully most people who worked at the lodge spoke english as well as french. every where else was mostly french speaking. the other good thing was that most places took american money. so i didnt have to exchange anything. since our dollar is about equal to the canadian dollar.
wednesday kevin and i went snowmobiling and magog. we went out for about 2 hours, with a guide, and it was so beautiful. it snowed the whole time and we were out in the canadian wilderness, or whatever. there were so many birch trees. i loved it. at one point when i was driving the snowmobile we went 80 km/hr. it was fast as shit! after snowmobiling we stopped in at a wal-mart so i could buy a new shirt (since kevin pulled us up onto a snowbank and i fell off the snowmobile my shirts were all wet). french canadian wal-mart is very clean and fancy.
on thursday, me, kevin, cindy and phil went dog sledding in magog. it was so awesome! the dogs were all pretty young, so the guy was still training them. he barely spoke any english but he was super nice, and after we all went out as a group he took each of us individually. i got to drive a sled with 7 dogs and we went pretty fast. it was a once in a lifetime kinda thing for me. so cool.
phil had a dungeons and dragons dvd that was actually a choose your own adventure movie and i was the only one to save the world that night. it made me think about those books i used to have. i've gotta look for them next time i go to my parents house.
friday we woke up, ate breakfast and piled into the car for the drive home. we had rented a yukon xl, it was HUGE. very comfy. it had leather seats and a dvd player. movies we watched (either on the trip there or the trip back) include cabin boy, blade runner, sin city, some john cleese movie where he plays a double bass and runs around naked a lot, and we also watched several episodes of house. we stopped in vermont for lunch and new jersey for dinner (arthur treachers holler).
the drive there and back wasn't nearly as bad as a ithought it would be. i did a few wordfinds and we also did some madlibs. i didn't sleep much, i never can in moving cars.
it feels weird to be home. the weather here is so much warmer and theres no snow on the ground.
