This might sound fanwanky, but

Seeing the recent Donna/Doctor dynamic I really hope that the Doctor's reunion with Rose won't be as romantic as I know many people wish for/seem to expect.

I have no doubt that we'll see a Martha who has outgrown the Doctor (and we already have, considering Torchwood), who moved on and leads a life she's fond of although he's not there.

I know it's what many people wish for Rose's life in Alt!World as well (at least those who can't see her cry her eyes out for years and years because that's so romantic and you can never be happy again after losing a loved one, but I am old and bitter and digressing), but I came to realize that I actually want the same realization from the Doctor's side as well. It's hard to describe, but especially that trip to Pompeii somehow changed the Doctor/companion dynamic in New Who so much, I don't want to lose that again. Yes, Rose and Martha also trusted him with their lives, they both would've died for his decisions if he asked them to, but I doubt he would've gone back to that family if Rose or Martha were pleading. He'd hurt Rose with bringing up the death of her father, and he would've ignored Martha.

So what changed? I can't quite tell, but Donna's right, the Doctor seems older somehow, doesn't he? He's come a long way since Canary Wharf and seems more Time Lordy than ever. Somehow, that Rose romance doesn't seem quite fit him anymore in my opinion. I hope the writers realized that, too. It would make a great story, as we all know Billie won't be back for long.

(The only other fitting character I could see would be Jack, but sadly Who!Jack rarely seems to be more than a footsoldier)

And for some completely different observation: Isn't it fascinating that Who now has a quite similar history as Europe? It's this 'during the War' or 'that was the War' that gets me every time, a simple explanation concealing so much an outsider can never know, but implies a huge background story that children probably learn at school.

And what does that make the Shadow Proclamation? The UN? The NATO? The Geneva Convention?

Don't mind me, not enough sleep makes me ramble.
