Title: Pale Pawn
Author: AnnP
Public: NC-17
Genre: Alternate Universe, Action/Adventure, Hurt/Comfort, Medium Fic

Summary: Methos had a dream, one that makes much sense for him. He soon meets Kalas then MacLeod... He knows what they are and what he is for them.

Review:

Settings ==> Really smartly done, the highlander universe is used in an original and consistent manner. There is no flaw, you can observe a very thoroughful care for details. The events are well related, the sequence of scenes and actions is fluid. The suspension of information is very well achieved without at any moment getting us lost.

Characters ==> Methos is the character under the spotlights, as far as he is concerned, he is as coherent as enticing that one can dream of. It's a real pleasure to follow his peregrinations and personal crisis. Duncan is a bit on the background and not as marked as what could be expected for canon or fanon, though it doesn't bring down the enjoyment. And to conclude, Kalas is a bit simplistic but without being stereotyped.

Plot ==> What can I say? First there is one, though we tend to relagate it in the background to focus on the characters especially Methos but the truth is, the plot is really consistent and rather well-done. There is a true logic, a bit of mystery, a bit of action, a bit of surprise and a real suspense about the ending. Very original idea and well-mastered plot.

Style ==> There had been a certain thinking brought into how to tell story and it's clearly perceptible as it is non-linear for instance, it shows a degree of fantasy and the overall impression is originality. As for the writing in itself, it is quite mastered, the story is fluent, everything flows... easy to read, to understand, to focus.

Interest ==> Pretty high to tell the truth. I'm totally for original stories, I don't mind alternate universe particularly when they are so well thought-out.

In conclusion ==> Here the main focus is Methos and he is a delight to read. Also I particularly enjoy this author, she succeeds to avoid all fanon clichés and developes really original and interesting stories that I always enjoy discovering and rediscovering.
