So, my family is having crazy times, I tell you what. Mom's car broke down on the way down to my grandparents' house--this weekend was my great-uncle's 80th birthday EXTRAVAGANZAAA (maybe not so much, but it was still a party)--and this wouldn't be such a big deal if you didn't know the back and forward-story. My dad's truck broke down on the way to the beach for my wedding, and then again on the day of the wedding, leading to massive stress, worry about how to get home, and the generosity of the Millar family taking some of our stuff (including the post-repair truck later that week) back home. Since then, the parents have been contemplating giving Jess the truck as a trade-in on a car, buying one for my dad, and calling it a day. Until this weekend, when Mom's car broke down. They waited two hours on the side of the road for AAA (and let me tell you, my mommy is NOT a happy lady when she's kept waiting). To her credit, it was the middle of the night, and they were on the side of the road in Easley, SC. My aunt and uncle drove out and helped them push the car into the parking lot of a nearby Advance Auto Parts before driving them to my grandparents'. They got it looked at and had to have the fuel pump replaced.

So today, I'm on the phone with my mom and her check engine light comes on. I told her to take it to Richie, our former across-the-street neighbor who runs an inspection and service station near where she was, and he checked it out. Apparently the folks who replaced the fuel pump cut through an evap hose (whatever THAT is) and Richie fixed it with a clamp. This is hopefully the end of that car's troubles, but the way things are going, I'm about to agree with cleolinda that the Ann Taintor calendar is psychic...July's was "The excitement never ends."

Not only that, but my brother's not getting five days of leave as expected, but will be home for the weekend before shipping out on the USCGC Legare. He gets to go all around the Caribbean, so I don't feel TOO bad for him, but we probably won't be able to get him a car. (Maybe though. We'll have to see.) And he has to get driven to Portsmouth, VA. Hopefully at least one of the cars will hold up for that.

financial woes, my crazy family, my brother
