My birthday

Well, been meaning to blog something but have been busy with boring things that weren't too blog-worthy and couldn't really think of too much to talk about. However, I figured I'd let everyone know how my birthday went.

Short synopsis: Great

The birthday started by getting up a bit later than the normal time and going to a pre-natal visit with thatkaringirl, the Doc confirmed that things were going pretty normally and the visit didn't really take too long. It could have taken quite a bit longer because Karin has to get her glucola(sp?) test done somewhat soon, but we had already made plans for the next part of the day and so we weren't able to sit around and see if Karin has pregnancy diabetes.

After the doctor's visit, we went to Let's Dish. For those who don't know what it is, it's a place where you go and make a bunch of meals to freeze for the month. Seems reasonably priced and we'd heard good things from friends and so we decided to try it out. It took about 1 1/2 hours and our freezer is now reasonably packed with meals for the month. We're trying out the first dish tonight if it made it into the slow-cooker this morning. :-)

Most of the rest of the afternoon I was on the computer. I had heard about an open weekend beta for a new MMOG called Auto Assault. I figured I'd give it a try. Been playing it in spurts throughout the weekend and quite liking the experience. I'm actually considering pre-ordering it or putting it on the list of games to consider buying when they come out. Concerns would be whether or not the drive and gun gameplay would get old too fast and what type of variety they'll support in the final game. Of course there is always the big question in my mind about whether it's worth $15 a month even if I do play it. I have problems with the subscription model for games.

Finally, in the evening we went to m1a20 and irislady's house for our Friday night friends gathering. Got to play the board-game that Karin got me for my Birthday, Zombies!!!. That turned out pretty well as well. I had heard some online concerns about the basic rule-set and I can see where they come from, but had an enjoyable gaming experience as well and looking forward to playing again.

Little did I know it, but Saturday in a way was a continuation of my birthday experience because I have such wonderful friends, family and especially my wife! m1a20 hosted a LAN party at his house while the girls spent much of the day at ours doing crafts. The guy's had a lot of fun playing various games and generally hanging out. Little did I know that it was partially a ruse to get me out of the house for the day, because Karin had a surprise in store for me. Her craft was finishing the curtains we've had in the works for the last two years and she decided to keep it a secret from me. That made for a good surprise upon coming home. First I had to notice it though. It was very late and so when I came upstairs I just shut off the light and didn't look into the living room. However, I found a piece of the old valence in the door way to the nursery and that was a bit surprising so it caused me to wonder what was going on and discover the curtains. What a great surprise! I definitely owe huge thanks to all the people who cooperated and helped my wife with her plans!

Finally, yesterday had a great lunch and time spent with my parent's and family celebrating our birthday with them. I also got somewhat of a birthday gift for myself although I hadn't really been planning on it and got some memory to upgrade my computer.

Well, back to work.
