"nuclear" usually brings back bad chemistry memories, but has a whole new connotation now.
and when did the word "beheading" find its way into my everyday vocabulary?
or - "al Qaeda" - a phrase that hadn't existed to me for the first quarter of my life, but now it serves as typical graffiti for newspapers, internet pop-ups, and the like.. doesn't the phrase itself have such a harsh tone... just like many other negative words in our vocabulary? BULL SHIT! FUCK! FUCKER! FUCK HER! AL QAEDA! etc. doesn't the very phrase make you want to smash something? it's so different from the warm, make-you-wanna-hug-someone feelings provided by phrases such as "fluffy bunny" or "pretty princess" or [heaven forbid] "world peace".
Al Qaeda!
based strictly on the sound, many americans might assume it would be spelled "quida" or something like that, right? actually, i even had to look up the spelling.. since it's embedded in my soul that 'u' ALWAYS proceeds 'q' (queen, quarter, aqua, etc.), and it just didn't look right to me. i'm making this point because i believe it's so important for us to remember that AMERICAN NATURE is not necessarily HUMAN NATURE, whether it's the spelling of a word or religious code. the world is huge, an overall population of about
6.5 billion people. those people, each with his/her own complex mind and soul, are distributed among only six continents (i say six because there are
no records of human life on antarctica). my main point is that, by nature, there are going to be distinct trends and differences in absolutely everything from appearence to language to technology. who is anyone to travel half way across the world with one exclusive goal in mind: to exterminate people of another culture simply because of what their leader has done, what religious code they follow, or, more pathetically - OIL!
there's something backward about going to war to achieve peace.
i've taken the initiative and started educating myself, because we are just not informed enough by our government. the things i've read on the internet in the past 24 hours have been nauseating.
osama bin laden wants me dead.
he wants my mom and dad dead.
he wants my professors dead.
he wants you dead.
and you,
and you,
and you.
and you, too, you're no exception!
how can we seem to be unconcerned about quotes like the following?:
"The magnitude and ferocity of what is coming your way will make you forget all about September 11th. ... After decades of American tyranny and oppression, now it's your turn to die. Allah willing, the streets of America will run red with blood, matching drop for drop the blood of America's victims."
this was said in a video by a former american who converted to islam, and is now a member of al qaeda. (
proof.)
if they do in fact possess the weapons to destroy us, they are going to try to destroy us. why?
perhaps because we've already killed an estimated
100,000 iraqis since this whole thing has started, or rather, since
we started this whole thing!
i utilized the beloved Google to read about the
atomic bombs we dropped in 1945, just to get a sense of exactly what could happen if such a disaster were to occur on our soil. i don't think people realize how.. inconvenient it would be for us to undergo such an event. first of all, 66,000 people were killed and 69,000 were injured in hiroshima - instantly. then, on august 9, 1945, nagasaki's population dropped from 422,000 to 383,000 - in a split second. you think that's scary? check this:
"Physicists who have studied these two atomic explosions estimate that the bombs utilized only 1/10th of 1 percent of their respective explosive capabilities."
let me paraphrase that-- these events that clutter the pages of every generic history book were only ONE-TENTH of ONE PERCENT as tragic as they could have been.
like i said, i am afraid.
