Perhaps the single greatest remark about parenting in the history of the world:
"Last night we read her books in our bed after her bath, and when we were done she looked over at Jon’s nightstand, pointed to his copy of
Freakonomics, and said, “Oooh, apples! I want to sleep with that book.” And since he had finished it a couple of weeks ago we let her, tucked her into her toddlerbed and set Freakonomics next to her head. She rolled over, hugged it, and then looked back at both of us and said, “You guys are my friends.”
You think you’re going to be prepared for the sheer incredibleness of such a moment, but it’s like, someone keeps setting off pipe bombs on your front porch and throwing rocks through your windows, and then one day out of nowhere they show up and mow your lawn. And you’re suddenly glad you didn’t shoot them last week."
Thank you again, Dooce, for making my day.
In other news:
-I have started reading High Fidelity for what I believe is the sixth or seventh time since October of
last year.
-I am absolutely BROKE on Gaia (and in real life, but Gaia is more fun to report about).
-I'm speaking to my mom again. And she's being nice.
-Trevor is back in town.
-Mr. Chompers died. :( Way, way sad.
I think that's about it.
I always forget just how crazed I get when I'm planning stuff for Dragon*Con. Every year, I go, "Eh, it won't be that bad," and put it off. And every August, I freak out about Dragon*Con, and completely flip my shit. At least I remembered now about all that doing sit-ups thing I always want to do before Dragon*Con. :-P
I have a HUGE list of stuff I want to do today. And stuff I need to do for Dragon*Con. And computer maintenance. And groceries. About to make one for future projects that need completed. (Like everyones water meat pillows, and my Rubik's Cube earrings.)
And on that note, I'm off.
