laid off

So I am officially getting laid off at work in about a month and the company that is coming in (Sentry) did not take the employees. Is it bad that I am excited to take a little break from work for a bit? Given this information I now know that I am getting severance for sure and I will be eligible for unemployment. I should probably be thinking

that sucks. i'm surprised they didn't keep at least some of the staff. Good luck with the job hunt!

What Sentry is doing is letting people apply if they want to but nothing is guaranteed and they are taking applications from people off the street as well. I think the reason they didn't take some of the employees is because of union contracts that state if they take more than 51% of the employees they have to abide by the original union contract. Also Sentry has already stated that they run their stores with about half the staff that Jewel uses. Oh well. It wouldn't have been a good career move to work there for me anyway given the have only 3 stores right now in this group and there would be very little room for advancement. Thanks for the well wishes, though!
