Blogging and Journalism and whatever

Hah, I'm not even sure who uses this anymore, seeing as I haven't been on for months now. I'm probably not going to be spending much time here either...except to maybe record my opinions of what's happening in my group for our magazine project so I can write my critical appraisal in about three months.

As the future journalism career becomes ever closer, I have started blogging (a fair few months ago really but was pretty shocking at getting round to updating it) at http://pennyscrayon.blogspot.com/

I am about to start up a music blog at http://we-dance-and-sing.blogspot.com/

Please check them both if you get the chance and at least link to me there to strengthen my search engine optimisation! (see I'm learning something for my 5 grand of fees).

So to get you up-to-speed

Generally things are going really well. My depression is completely gone. Since moving up north I've had this inexplicable lease of life and according to the Norwich friends I caught up with at the beginning of the year, I have my old spark back. Exciting news for me. Now I want to be unrecognizable by the time my course is over. The next 8 months are going to be a massive learning and development experience not only for my journalism but also for me as a person. :)

I am loving my course, and definitely want to be a magazine journalist even if I can't do shorthand (at the moment at least) and every so often go through moments of serious doubt on my writing ability. I'm quite looking forward to the rest of this semester. We've only just started back with lectures at Sheffield and it was a pretty full on week last week where they taught us everything they could about tv, audio and web journalism so we can do our next intra-discipline project which is to produce a news website on a topic affecting South Yorkshire. Today normal lectures for the semester started back with a three hour workshop this afternoon looking at creating our own magazines.

As a group me and three other girls on my course are going to create a magazine for divorced women. So if any of you have any parents or friends or whatever who would be willing to tell us what they want in a magazine and be part of our focus group that would be excellent. Probably best if you facebook me about it though please. Thanks. :)

I am going to be on work experience in London for three weeks in April which I'm very much looking forward to. Going back to NME for a week and then will be spending two weeks at the Observer on their monthly music supplement. Can't wait. But hence I need to get my music blog going properly this time! Also we get to go on a free field trip to London at the end of March with the course. Apparently we're going to be able to go to a couple of publishing houses and spend the wednesday in westminster meeting politicians and political journalists and sitting in on PMQs. The not-so-secret politics geek is quite excited by this.

That's about it really. My life is mostly this course and the things I'm doing at Hope City Church in Sheffield (http://www.hopecitychurch.tv) After that there's not really much time left for anything else.

So please wander along to my blogs when you get the chance. Spread the word about them too, I'd love to develop a little following. xx
