Ptolemy's gate Jonathan Stroud

I read the last tome of the Bartimaeus trilogy. It was good to read the end of the story, to know part of the djinn's past history, to follow once more the footsteps of Nathaniel and Kitty through their magician-dominated London.

It was also a preparation for the last Harry Potter.

It also got me thinking about their magical technique, the summoning process through which magicians bring the djinni and other spirits into this world. I thought that reading is a bit like summoning a story trapped inside a paper and ink frame. It takes learning, it takes faith, you'll never know what you will find. But it will be as powerful as any magical creature. Images and thoughts and words spinning before your amazed eyes.
