I don't remember if I mentioned it here, but last week I attended a wake for the son of a friend of my mom. He was 20 years old, and died in a car crash less than a minute from his home. Now, I was under the impression that he went off the road, hit 2 trees, and died. End of story. But what actually happened was that his brakes failed, and the car went off the road, hit two trees, and rolled into a revine. He then managed to climb out of the car, and crawl back to the side of the road, where he died. A UPS truck found him about 2 hours after he'd crashed.

On Sunday, my mom and I accompanied Dale to a friend's house in Massachusetts as a "memorial get-together" for her husband (and Dale's good friend) Jimmy who had died in February. Again, I wasn't quite clear how he'd died. He had a wife, and 4 childred, and a grand-daughter. He commited suicide. He ran a hose from the exaust of his truck truck, in throught he window of the car, and died right there in his own driveway.

Death is such a horrible thing. It always seems to take the people who don't deserve it first. And those who don't experience the pain of death seem to take life for granted. This is the only one you get. There's no reset button. And I'm not saying you should go jump out of a plane or do something crazy because you could die tomorrow(though it is true), I'm saying cherish life. Make the most of what you have because believe it or not, it's all you get.
