[In the crowded hallways of Versailles, a solitary (and extremely pink) figure is standing against the wall, fanning herself delicately. Somewhat uncharacteristically to most of the people roaming the hall, she is grinning from ear to ear ( Read more... )

[Lord Myrnin catches sight of the fetching, pink figure as he's making his way around the dance floor. When he chooses to take a break from dancing, he takes refuge in Dulcine's hallway. He greets her with a wicked grin and a proper bow]

Mademoiselle, it is a crime I've yet to meet so lovely a lady. I am Lord Myrnin.

Dulcine DesRosiers. I'm the Baronne du Fontette.

[It's still such a thrill for Dulcine to use her title, so she tries to drop it into conversation as much as possible. Who cares that it was basically bought for her?]

[Oh he has heard of you.]

It is a pleasure to meet you, Baronne.

Have you been long in Court, my lord?

I was born in court. [He sounds rather bored by the whole idea really.] Yourself?

Oooh, that must have been exciting. I've been at court about two months now. I came right after my marriage to the Baron du Fontette.

I suppose so. I know the Baron. Horrible man. I'm not sure what you see in him. [It's said with a bit of a joking tone but Myrnin is entirely serious]

I think I saw a title and an entrance to Court.

[Dulcine has no qualms about her role as social climber. It took her a lot of work to get where she is, and she isn't afraid of letting people know where she started out.]

Besides, he has to stay in the Barony, you know. It's very important to make the land and and household is being taken care of.

[Myrnin chuckles. He appreciates her honesty about the whole thing.] And what was so terribly tempting about our company here?

Someone I care about lives here.

Besides, have you seen the clothes? And the CHAMPAGNE? I don't think I've been completely sober for more than five minutes since arriving here.

You have an excellent point. Might I inquire who lives here?

The Duc du Polignac. I'm sure you've met him.

[There is a proud note in Dulcine's voice. Hey, if you're going to be a mistress, it better be for someone good.]

Indeed I have. [She does have a point.] He couldn't hire you as a lady in waiting for his wife?

dulcisnuntius May 24 2011, 04:53:35 UTC
Then I would be a lady in waiting. Instead I have my own land, my own title, and no one can kick me out if he gets tired of me.

[Well that makes the Baroness infinitely more interesting.] So you didn't do it merely for love.

I don't think people ever do anything for purely one motive.
