So. We had a guest speaker at good ol' SLC tonight.. Can anyone guess who? It was Michael Moore. Which was incredible, even if you hate him. And to top matters off, we didn't even have to pay the man to come and speak here. He did it for free.
I went just to see what he had to say. Which was a lot. And it was very informative. It was neat to meet the man behind all these movies. I mean, I have seen him on the screen and stuff. But to see him for real, and get the chance to get him in a room and hear what makes him tick.
He was very controversial... To say the least. Some would say he evaded answers. I don't think so. But the thing was when it came to question and answer time all the kids went looking to him for the political solution to all of our current ills and when he answered, quite frankly, that we were currently fucked, people got frustrated. And, as hopeless as that message seems, there was a brighter undertone. I mean, the man makes these movies hoping that the same things he is angry about will anger others. I mean, all this information he somehow found, and he is just an ordinary guy. So it technically could have been you or me or whoever. All he wants is to effect change, and while that is hard by yourself, if you are loud enough you might just get some more people who feel the same way that you do. And then some more. And then some more. And then you can start the fucking revolution that all these overbearing SLC students talk about, but never do more than wax poetic over their cigarettes and vintage tees... God, I swear this man was talking about such powerful stuff and all these kids can do is run out of the theater and frantically try to find a lighter and get pissed off because he can do nothing. Excuse me? But what have you done lately besides bitch to change things?
Don't pretend to be political when all you do is whine... I know there are not resources everywhere, but on this campus, there are more than enough outlets for our voices to be heard... Why don't they just use them and leave this man and his movies alone??
God...
But it was wonderful. Don't get me wrong.
