So I totally don't regret not going to Prom anymore... yesterday my sister took me to Salvadorian Communist gathering, mostly youth but they opened the house to anyone willing to come and they showed "Voces Inocentes" which is about the Salvadorian civil war between guerillas and the Salvadorian government (funded by the US of course) so anyway... it's a great movie and I got to meet a lot of intellectuals(older than me of course but in college) . After the movie they had a discussion and many points were brought up such as:
it's not just enough to take the government (and convert it to socialism) because as we saw with Allende, nothing was really changing... And that Venezuela STILL exports oil to the US
COUNTER argument: it takes time to see change within the system such as Venezuela's relatively new government... but IT IS happening (they are exporting less oil) ... That we can see Fidel Castro's government spark change within Latin America (with the socialist presidents in Brazil and Venezuela) and that slowly latin america is pulling away from US ties, -That it is up to the Latino youth here in the US to try to help the latin american movement along since we ARE here and we CAN help in some way (and no it doesn't mean sending money earned here in the states because that sends wrong messages to the people over there)
Since this movie was about the Salvadorian civil war yet made in Mexico only shows the unification of the latin people...
As I'm reading this over it kinda sounds treasonist... well no not really, I (just like the rest of the world) wanna see the abuse from US on other countries stop
OMG soo Machuca finally came out ... I'M SEEING IT AT 2 BUT I'M STILL TAKING YOU TO SEE IT KATE!! AND EVERYONE ELSE I PROMISED TO TAKE!!!
ohhhhh I hope you read this Jeanny... I really want you to come with me to one of these meetings....
