Hi Guys!! I am soooo sorry for the long hiatus, I just suck at non-work related internetting these days, that is the honest to God truth. Also age is catching up with me I think, cause I totally suck at multi-tasking in real life and being super involved in fandom related stuff at the same time. I swear I'll need to take time off at work in order to fully focus on LJ and fanfic that has been on hiatus for far too long. *heads desk repetitively*
I do read posts and contribute every now and again. Yeah I know. I suck. But enough of that, let's talk Breaking Bad!!!
I love that show. No I really love that show. But it's the kind of love I do not feel when I am not watching it, if that makes any sense at all. Like I don't gush about it to people who don't watch or aren't interested. Alls I know is, I start watching it and I'm like IN IT, in Walt and Jesse, Skylar, Hank's world 100%... I start watching other stuff like Homeland, Suits, The Good Wife, Sons of Anarchy, Scandal, whatever and I put Albuqurque (sp?) in the back of mind. Although I will have a random thought like Breaking Bad would have handled that so much better.
Also, it's not popular in my part of the world. So I don't know anyone who is not my friend on the internet who watches it and/or enjoys it.
But then Vince worked on the X-Files, I mean come on he wrote/co-wrote; Pusher, Unruhe, Bad Blood, Leonard Betts, Memento Mori, Small Potatoes (ah the almost kiss), Folie A Deux, Unusual Suspects, Monday, Je Souhaite ... I digress.
So onto my thoughts on the show!
I'm gonna bullet point cause yeah, am a little lazy. Also and this is important, I watched season 1 of the show in 2011, then season 2 earlier this year (like March or something), I have managed to keep myself spoiler free.
Except for the random comments you cannot avoid that basically tell you: it's Season 5 and both Jesse and Walt are still alive and that Hank finds out and because I was looking for GIFS to compliment my post it looks like Marie finds out too (aargh). I just started season 3 last week, finished that and watched 4x01 last night, will finish season 4 and the first half of season 5 by the weekend hopefully. And other than the spoilers I mentioned above, please let me remain spoiler free! Or else...
KTHANX BAI.
So here goes:
- I love this show
- I love how dark it is but it's still funny
- Walt is seriously becoming unlikeable BUT so is Jesse, Skylar, Hank and Gus yet somehow it just makes the show even more compelling,. I think mainly because it feels like their characters are naturally progressing? Like the writers are not pulling any punches no matter how much I want them to sometimes. So I now appreciate how thin the line between love and hate is. Just when I think I've had enough of all of them they do something that makes me love them all over again. And with more intensity. NGL I feel like I'm in an abusive relationship with all the protagonists on this show! Cause I just can't let them go.
- Aaron Paul is amazeballs. When he told Walt he was going to destroy Hank's life and own him? Then he goes off on Walt about how he wants nothing to do with him in the hospital room? I had tears in my eyes.
- And I couldn't help but think that Walt needed to hear it from Jesse because when it comes to everyone else he's got this self-justification thing going on that he doesn't really listen or hear what someone is saying if it feels like they are faulting him for something. Like he feels wronged by life by not being a fancy chemist or whatever (I can't remember the names of the couple he lied about paying his bills in Season 1/2?), wronged cause he got cancer, wronged, wronged, wronged by everything and everyone. And he has so much resentment bubbling inside him. So cooking meth finally proves what he has known all along, that the science is flawless and also him by extension. He's fucking proud of the money he makes from the meth! And he doesn't understand why Skylar doesn't see it that way. And he most certainly can't have a junkie/flunkie (who doesn't even understand the science!) making meth as good as him or maybe even better!??? So Gus' ploy to get him cooking again? When he says, "I'm told it's just as good." Then he says, "more or less"???That was fabulousssss.
- And as for me, having watched The Wire (twice? three times?) I am watching the unraveling of Walt's life, and also the cementing of his Heisenberg alter ego (running over those guys and shooting the other one in the head, all the political games he's played with Gus) with glee cause I'm like yeah, you're Stringer Bell and you're gonna get got (one way or another). Jesse is Wallace, D'Angelo Barksdale and Ziggy all rolled into one and even when he does really stupid fucked up shit that pisses you off and makes you yell at your screen... you can't help but feel sorry for him. Because he's just not suited to this life. And I can hear the line from Samira Wiley's character in Orange is the New Black when she explains how they all ended up in jail with, "yeah we all took a wrong turn on the way to church". HEH.
- MARRY ME VINCE!!! You know there is a thread on the X-Files Forum on
TWOP which talks about our favorite writers/directors/etc on the show that is called 'Marry Me Vince'. It says it all.
- JANE MARGOLIS - she is so important to me.
I love that they are not letting us forget her anytime soon. Nor are they 'making' Jesse or Walt for that matter, forget her either.
One of the things that can really grind my gears on tv is when they brush off something like that for expediency or to set up a new relationship or whatever (Vampire Diaries has too many examples of this to name). And Vince was the King of Continuity on X-Files so no worries on that front.
- Poor Jesse's last shred of innocence gone with shooting Gale. I knew he did it. I read this morning that there was so much speculation as to whether or not he killed Gale. For me there was no doubt about it. This is Vince Gilligan for crying out loud. He is not pulling any punches.
- Skylar... she's going interesting places. Anna Gunn is pretty awesome methinks. I knew I recognised her from somewhere. She was the new Mrs. Bullock on Deadwood!
- HANK!!! LOL. Just. Love everything they are doing with him. Although I seriously agreed with Jesse's schadenfreude over his shooting, after that beat down he gave my poor *insert Darla voice here* darling boy.
- Better Call Saul!! The actor is amazing. I am running out of superlatives for this show.
- Tuco's cousins? Fucking C.R.E.E.P.Y dayum!
- Gus? Esposito is fantabulous. And I love the sense of foreboding that I get with him.. He is not invincible and his downfall is coming. He just doesn't know it. And I think it will be Walt who does it. Or it will have something to do with his association with Walt. Stringer Bell comes to mind.
- Phew! I think I covered most of the things I wanted to say.
- Oh I think Walt treats Jesse more like family than he does his own family at this point. I mean yes, he loves his family and still does family shaped things but yeah there's these little things that happen that show that to me...It's very interesting.
