*note: several LARGE images behind cut... will wreak havoc if you are on dialup*

so we brought Four and Five home a few weeks ago. Four went to the vets and it turned out she DID have an eye in that grossed out socket...

and after antibiotics and a few good baths she looks great. no more goo in her eyes. but it turns out that the infection did take most of her sight in the left eye. it didn't rot it all out, but left her mostly blind in the eye.
but she is doing well... she is walking with a heavy limp due to the same arthritic issues as her brother Three, but is mobile. and happy to be with her pals Three and Five....

Left to Right: Four, Three and Five

turns out that Five's injuries from his attack were treatable and he is now completely fine... holding his head up and walking upright. and the best thing of all? he is showing NO arthritic signs like his sister and brother. *whew*
he's a great duck. very diplomatic and looks out for Four constantly. and he's LARGE. the biggest pekin i have.

Four (in front... doesn't she look GREAT?) and Five (in back)

and then there's Three.

Three

well Three is just not doing so great. his mobility is not good at all and i fear that soon he will not be able to walk at all. because he is so comprimised, i carry him in and out every morning and night from his night pen in the house with the ducklings to the yard. he tries to keep up with the flock, but he can only struggle a few feet before he collapses. and i fear that Four is going to be dealing with this same issue a bit farther down the road.
*sigh*
so i have been talking with a few folks about Three... to see what i can do for him. believe it or not, there is a damned Handicapped Ducks site on yahoo.
go ahead laugh. everyone else has. INCLUDING my vet....
but i have been conversing with these nice folks who all have handicapped ducks... and well... well... it looks like Three may be getting a wheelchair.
go ahead, yuk it up...
i'm getting used to that reaction.

so i am in contact with a few folks that makes animal wheelchairs... i'll let you know how that turns out. i'm sure you all are dying to know.
but...
until then... the best plan of action is to get him off his feet at night and relieve the stress off his aching and stiff joints. so with the help of the Handicapped Ducks folks... well we made Three a bed.

i KNOW it looks silly.

i even laughed like a banshee when we put him in it tonight... but, well, he actually fell ASLEEP in the thing this evening.
*waits for ridonkulous laughter to subside*
the whole idea behind the thing is to let his legs hang free of weight and keep them under him and not all splayed out all night long... which is what has been happening. and when he gets up in the morning his legs are frozen in a splayed out position for well over 15 minutes until he gets to stretch them in his morning swim.
so now he has his bed.
and i put him in it and placed him in his night pen with the ducklings... who ran like like the dickens to the opposite side of the pen and stared at it like it was going to devour them. lol.

i promise to post how he does through the night.
oh for petes sake. you can stop laughing now.
you are gonna give him a complex.
