In Rainbows

I'm a fan. What's everyone else think?

I like the return to a more late-90's-Radiohead sound, as Amnesiac and Hail to the Thief were nowhere near as good, in my opinion, as the preceding three albums. That said, all the songs sound pretty much the same unless you're listening closesly to them. My favorites so far are "House of Cards" and "Nude ( Read more... )

you consider amnesiac so much more meandering than kid a? the two are companion pieces, pieced together from the same sessions from both records. 'reckoner' also dates back to 2001 (and 'nude' has been played live since 1997). hail to the thief's main weakness was it's length, not the quality of the songs. there are some killer tunes on that record, just some clunkers towards the end.

speaking of throwbacks... i've always thought that HTTT was a combination of amnesiac and the guitar-epics of the bends- making hail a throwback as well, even moreso than the new record.

ok, that said...just like you, i don't think the new album is ANYTHING groundbreaking or new from radiohead- but it's still very, very nice. good and short too, which is a nice touch when most records these days are packed to the maxx. otherwise, the distribution is indeed revolutionary. did you hear that they sold 1.2 million copies of the record in ONE day? that's pretty fucking amazing.

we're buypassing a label too, naturally- but as you also suggest- we're much more in need of one than someone like radiohead, or prince, or neubauten, or NIN (all bands that are releasing records without labels lately). may this be a big trend, and maybe it'll open the doors again to independant bands and their development through label support.

generally, for a $15 cd- the artist sees about $4 of that- and that's after recouping all expenses for recording and such.

ps- get the new pj harvey album, stat- even if you have to download it or steal it from someone. it's a far better piano record than anything our fallen red-haired friend has offered us in the new millenium.
