Alison and I went to see Tori tonight at PNC Bank Arts Center. It was not the best Tori show I've ever seen, but it was the most bizarre. I feel like it was a shorter set than some of the other shows, and I see now that I look back (
8/28/1998 - Starlight Theater,
10/9/2001 - Beacon Theater,
3/7/2003 - Radio City Music Hall,
8/24/03 - Jones Beach) that it was a bit shorter. Part of that was because we had a twenty minute delay halfway through the second song cause there were severe audio problems. I did really like the fact that, in the middle of each set this tour, Tori plays two covers taken from online requests. Tonight she did two of the best songs I've ever heard from her: The Cure's "Lovesong" and Prince's "Purple Rain." She pulled a Bowie at one point as well, stopping midway through "Rattlesnakes" to tell a crew member (whom she had just flipped off) to "shut the fuck up to the side of the stage, you're blocking my light." Then she started back up where she left off. She never did finish "Father Lucifer" though. Anyway, here's the setlist in full:
Original Sinsuality
Father Lucifer (up until first chorus, then technical difficulties)
Little Earthquakes
Blood Roses
Yes, Anastasia
Northern Lad (EEEEEEEEEEEE!!!)
Parasol
Rattlesnakes
Lovesong (Cure cover)
Purple Rain (Prince cover)
Cars And Guitars
Cooling
Jamaica Inn
Taxi Ride
The Beekeeper
1st Encore
China (EEEEEEEEEE!!!!)
Here. In My Head
2nd Encore
1000 Oceans (EEEEEEEEEEE!!!!)
Sweet The Sting
The whole way there and back everywhere was full of freaks, like crackheads and 40-year-old virgins. We got our money's worth for the tickets just watching the Tori fans. No one did interpretive dances the whole time like most other shows, or else I just didn't see them. In any case, it was a fun time.
This weekend we are going to Scarsdale to see her friend Lindsay off (sort of) to Italy and to live in the house while her whole family is out of town still. Updates from there, yo.
