Everything Has Changed

So plans have changed a bit since last we spoke.

Yesterday the movers called to confirm our appointment at 9:00 ... on Saturday. After some angry words I finally consented that this would be ok. They were unable to move me back to Sunday anyway. Apparently I had cancelled Sunday and moved it to Saturday. I didn't do that. But I think this works out better anyway. So now everything's been moved up a day. Alison and I are moving her stuff into the apartment tonight when her dad gets off work. Then she and I are going back to Brooklyn to do last minute packing and waiting for 9:00 tomorrow when I leave Brooklyn far behind. All the utilities are taken care of an now all that remains is hoping these movers are not only fast (paying by the hour) but more reliable than their scheduling ability indicates.

Today at work was amazing. Not only did we get out early, but I had needed $990 to get quota, and then John (the owner) gave us a contest for the day. $1000 in credit card sales gets an additional $100 bonus, $1400 earns $200. So the amount I needed anyway was the amount to get extra money. Well, I had a pretty good day, considering it was supposed to be slow, with the holiday weekend making people leave early and all. I did just over $1400 and not only made quota, but surpassed it by $400, and best of all, earned that extra $200 bonus. I need to take this week as an example when I hate my job. Because I really didn't work hard to get this, I just worked, not that I ever don't. But I started out the week with over $950 in cancellations, and sort of wrote the week off as a no-go, counting my blessings that everything worked out for me to get quota last week. Part of getting quota involved those cancels happening this week instead of then, so I sort of expected to have to trade one week's quota for the other. But now I realize that I can get quota every week, or at least every week that there's a chance. Of course there will be those weeks that are just not going to happen, when there are a ton of cancels ($950 isn't really that bad, considering we sell people $1000 packages.) But this $1018 gross week is just what I need to start the month and to start my "clean slate" at the new apartment.

Last night in the car on my way to Alison's with my computer (so I can move it myself instead of the movers) the driver spoke no English, and only got me to the right place neighborhood because it happened to be Chinatown. The whole ride, I was listening to Chinese radio. First it was bad pop music, and then, when I thought it could get no worse, it was "English Vocaublary Hour" during which the host taught the listener words like "game," "difficult," "mathematics," and "children." Then they made sentences, and my favorite one was "Mathematics is not difficult for Chinese children." I could have told you that in high school. If only I could have learned Chinese from listening to it, then perhaps I could have communicated with the driver when he was going east instead of west and turning right when I told him to go left (after I started navigating him from being completely lost.)

The new Bowie song is crap. I find most of his stand-alone soundtrack songs are severely lacking in quality, save thsoe in the 80's, ironically. Good thing there's still Heathen to remind me that he's done a great album in the last ten years.

I guess that's it. Next time I post, it will be from our new home in New Jersey. Peace.

work, bowie, alison
