Quick, before he watches Torchwood!

I started working a seasonal job a few weeks ago and the first thing I found was the staff booksale in the canteen, where I was introduced to the William Gibson-style, Greg Bear-scale world of Alistair Reynolds, whose second book forms the foundation of a teetering stack of unread fiction that threatens to overrun a couple of bookshelves. Book tokens and South Wilts Mencap have suppplied yet more material for this precariously sprawling edifice, and I still haven't read Don Quixote, which is good for three regular books or 1.3 Peter F. Hamiltons. All this is of course a good thing, if not conducive to an active outdoor lifestyle.

However, many things have passed me by. There was only so much I could do! Wait for me, Oxfam... Also, the third of Naomi Novik's Temeraire books, Black Powder War, and Sergei Lukyanenko's Day Watch have just appeared in book shops over here. Oh Waterstones, why you make-a me bleed?
