Good Evening Ladies and Gent,
Coming at you from the basement of the FSU Centre in the Library is the newest edition of Two Words' LJ. It gives me great pleasure to let you know that all is well in life for the time-being. Seeing that it has been a few days since the last post, let me recap what's been going on as of late.
Weekend: The start to our weekend, Friday was dominated by a need to get work done, particularly on my Indepedent Study. The rest of the group has a pretty intense paper and exam coming up this week in Int'l and I think/expected Tiefenthaler also wanted to keep me going at the same pace. I sent her a revised copy of my outline, so I hope the second time is the charm. I have a boatload of research to sift through so that will be a lot of fun. Seriously, who doesn't want to know the economic impact of terrorism on the U.S. and U.K?!? It's the new pickup line, put it to good use and watch it work. Anyways, that night, I headed over to 33 Colonnade. Knowing that we had to get up early the following day, I still envisioned some form of evening entertainment would ensue. Unfortunately, Marty came down with a pretty severe case of the flu and was bed stricken for the weekend, including his birthday!! That left, Barnes, Chadillionaire, Chaz and me to go out on Friday night. Dillon provided us with some entertainment as he failed in his attempts to make Chicken parmesean. Per usual, his flatmates busted his chops about his reputation of 'passing out' because, well, Dillon is notorious for coming home after a night out in town and wiping out on a coach. Consequently, his flatmates attempt to curb his behavior by giving him a face-full of shaving cream. It helps that he's a heavy sleeper because this has occurred 3 times thus far this semester, yet Dill pickle hasn't learned his lesson. Anyways, we went out to a classy pub, took in the night, indulged in a Malibu and Coke and went back to my flat thereafter. Now that colleges have begun here in London, most of Hasan's friends have come back so he's got plenty of company to keep him busy. When I got back to the room, he told me of his adventures and it turned out to be his best night to date. He's been wooing this girl that he knew from their days back home and he decided to f**k all and just go for it and it worked, for the time being. I'm hoping though for no sexiling.
Saturday was our class trip to Bath and Stonehenge. We left at 8 am so that required getting up at the ungodly hour of 7 on a Saturday. Before we boarded, I had to get some hot chocolate to wake myself up and I made my contribution to Colgate for the day. I went to this coffeeshop called Cafe Nero, which is owned by our very own Robert HO. With my hot cocoa in hand, we departed on a rooomy coach bus to Western England. The journey to Stonehenge was about 1.5 hours and since we were traveling through the countryside, I wanted to see what it was like. I did my best to stay up but it eventually started to look alot like Colgate with the greenery, the livestock, the openness, the farms and such. At Stonehenge, we got audio tours that gave us the full lowdown of the historic site. I always get those spooky, goosebump feelings when you're in the presence of such storied and mysterious places that hold answers like no other. We had the perfect day to go with a beautiful day, which made the scene amazing because Stonehenge is surrounded by absolutely nothing. If you look at my Facebook pictures, you'll probably notice that. We made our way around the area in about an hour and boarded the bus for Bath. It was another rewarding trip given its splendor, richness in history and scenery and its architechture. From our tour, I know that this city was constructed over 2,000 years ago and yet, the ancient baths that we got to see weren't lacking in their function whatsoever. The water was just as warm as it was 2,000 years ago and though the Temple had been destroyed by consequent events, there many parts that were still intact. I didn't want to bore you with scenic pictures from both places, so I placed only pictures w/ ppl in them on Facebook and others on my Yahoo account, if you're interested:
http://photos.yahoo.com/ph//nyjets2k. We got a chance to walk around the city for a bit but there was waaaaaaayyy toooooo much to do in the little time we had. We left a 4 to be back by dinner and eventually, we made it back by 7pm. It took us longer because it was prime rush hour, which in London is awful and adding to the matters, the bus driver took us through the most populated/worst traffic areas of London: Chelsea, Kensignton, Victoria, Westminster, etc. After we got back, I expected that we would do something for Marty's 20th. O yea, I forgot to mention that Marty's illness prevented him from joining the rest of the class (and the Rask family) on our morning/afternoon adventure. I just hoped that he was feeling better. Luckily, he was and we took him out. (We=Barnes, Chaz, Dillon and I). It was also Max's birthday and my sidekick Ryan's birthday, crazy coincidences. I had no desire in celebrating Max's 21st as you can imagine. Anyways, we walked around for a bit in search of a suitable restaurant at which to ring in the b-day and to my delight, we settled on the Palms of Goa, a fine Indian restaurant. I was also grateful that Chaz and Barnes agreed to try something new. Dillon didn't get much voice in the matter because he was slightly opposed. After taking a few looks at the menu, Chaz put me in charge of ordering. Obviously, I'm not well versed in non-veg dishes, but from my knowledge of what is good, I convinced them to go with the always appealing Chicken Tikka Masala and Barnes went with Lamb Korma. I also encouraged them to go with a Kingfisher to see what an Indian lager tastes like. I was a bit disappointed with my Mutter Paneer because it was bit short on salt and I wasn't a fan of the hour wait between ordering and getting our food. Nevertheless, we had a good time with the b-day boy. We dropped a $150 between the five of us after it was all said and done and eaten. Papadum, samosas for appetizers; naan, rice and mutter paneer for main course and a mango lassi for desert, couldn't get much better than that. We went to a pub to officially toast to Marty's b-day and then called it a night. I went back to their flat for a bit, where we watched the Ryder Cup, to which Barnes and Marty were thoroughly outraged b/c the U.S. got their asses handed to them by Europa. We also happened to watch some porn. For further details, ask Marty.
Yesterday was spent catching up on work, especially this Theater review. Our professor recommended writing it as if we were a journalist critiquing a play to potential theatregoers. I write sports, not Arts & Features, so it doesn't give me any upperhand. I got it out of the way, though I'm not full pleased with what I typed up. I may alter some things, but because there's a strict word limit, it may need to be cosmetic changes than a facelift. Today, we got the dates of our other midterms, after break and soon, we will also know where we will be working, which also begins after work. Sounds like the semester is really going to pick up after break. On another note, my bank account is getting a workout after topping up my Oyster Card, cellphone and going food shopping. I need to cut down on buying junk food, though I can't resist. I'm also concerned about the security regulations in this country in regards to baggage. I want to travel light but b/c of the ban on all liquids, I can't carry my bag on-board and instead need to check it in, which is a bit of a pain in the ass. It's a bit worriyng b/c EasyJet, or RyanAir, one of the airlines we're flying on strongly recommended purchasing traveling insurance, as if we are going to die or our bags are going to be displaced. Most likely, unnecessary and irrelvant thoughts, but I just want to be 100% correct. Anyways, there it is and I need to get back to work. P.S. I'm also glad to see two different groups of friends partying together in the Andrea, Michelle, Marisa and Kari group with Jill and Allyssa. Hearing from both sides, it sounds like we, foreigners, missed one helluva time. Don't have tooooo much fun w/o us, you may be tooo poooped out when we return and that better not be the case. Alright, catch ya l8tr g8tr.
