Random, random and slightly less random

1) Pretties!

January is is the first month in several that I haven't posted anything at still_grrr .

2) Guess who has an Archive Of Our Own account? Me!

3) Ok, so in the midst of trolling google for half decent Spike/Illyria fic (don't ask), I stumbled upon an old rec page, that had, among other things, this fantastic Olivia centered story called " Vex Not the Roses."

This story also has bad ass race theroy heavy writers commentary, that I love so very much.

Which got me to thinking about how I've been lurking on various Buffy meta posts and blogs, and what little critical Dollhouse meta there is, but, despite that I have a nearly worthless degree in women studies with an emphasis on race and pop culture, i haven't written a meta on any of the stuff I've been watching in the past year (besides yelling at my tv whenever Epic RaceFail or ClassFail or GenderFail happens.)

I kind of want to do an analysis of power dynamics within Dollhouse, and question the issues of subversion within the show. And, of course, the huge hulking issue of consent and human trafficking that turned off so many people about the show, but my angry feminist self watched the whole thing regardless. (Mostly because I think, the whole dollhouse system is more prostitution then human trafficking, and the issue of consent is defined by the show in an interesting way, and the really disturbing all out break in the dollhouses rules of consent doesn't happen until the last few episodes. This is not including the whole other can of worms that is Serria's arc, which is its own 15+ page analysis.)

Part of me knows that when I critically examine the show, I'll reveal somethings to my self that will sully my shiny-love for Dollhouse.

For example, once I analyze and speculate about the Boyd/Claire relationship, and you know, question Claire Saunders's agency, that I will reveal how fucked up the whole situation is, I will feel conflicted about my continued love of a fucked up parring that I myself acknowledge to be problematic.

I will have to write sugary-sweet fluff about them in order to cheer myself up, because some of the shit people say about the parring? Will be true. But, I've loved messed up parings before, and I will again, and the massive gaps in character development leave plenty of room for interpretation.

So yeah....

*goes off to read theory*

meta back ya'll, don't assume i'm white plezekthankx, i win awards, recs
