NC-17; 38K: Jared Padalecki is a journalist, and Jensen Ackles is a homicide detective with a serial murder investigation on his hands. The murders bear a striking resemblance to the case that tore their relationship apart five years ago. Could this new investigation be the catalyst they needed to reconnect?

Oh wow. I just. I don't know. Okay, so I am so happily satisfied with this story. you have no idea. This is the one I was JUST saying that I was feeling good about it, praying it didn't disappoint. It so didn't. It carried so wonderfully with a nice slow build between not only Jared and Jensen and their working together then being together, but also in the case. Unraveling the details and sucking the reader in with wanting to know more, without sensationalizing the crimes. The big pay off is the final part with the huge reveal and a carefully crafted standoff that isn't overly detailed but has just enough action to keep you involved, while also giving you so little you almost feel like you're part of the scene, not knowing up from down and left from right.

I just ... the further away I am from finishing it, the more I like it. It makes me itchy for some new Law & Order episodes, and most of all, to write the one I want to do, based on an excellently developed and acted episode from a month or so ago.
