I arted for
spn_reversebang!! So here it is with the lovely
candygramme as my author!
Title: The Sidekick
Artist:
dugindeepAuthor:
candygrammeFandom/Genre: RPS, humor
Pairing(s): Jared/Jensen
Rating: PG-13
Word Count: ~8,000
Warnings: Chad
Summary: When Jared finds himself suddenly with child, he needs help, immediately. Fortunately his buddy Chad finds him just the thing. Unfortunately, he doesn't seem to know when enough is enough.
Read the Fic Now! This all came to be with those on Twitter who contend Jensen is an alien overlord, ready to take over our world. I twisted that into the concept that Jensen is a robot, which is clearly the only explanation for how perfect he looks. He's built in a world where many robots/Sidekicks are created to help out the average person with any number of needs. I surely wish I had a Sidekick to do all these things, let alone one that looks like Jensen! I wanted a story that addressed Jared's reactions to having a Sidekick and how weird it would be when the Sidekick goes off program. And this is what the lovely and funny
candygramme has created! I am so excited to have been claimed by her and have this fun, carefree story to go with the art. Go read it now!! (link above)
HUGE THANKS to a few people who looked at it, including
tebtosca,
kelleigh,
fiercelynormal, and
expectative for their ideas and advice as the tagline, picture choices, and representing the ad, which gave me the most trouble. I kept thinking about all the layouts I create at work and yet I couldn't make a magazine ad?! It was infuriating that I never got it to where I wanted, but I'm pretty happy with all the rest, especially with Jensen morphing into the robot :D
I used Photoshop to mess with the original images, which were gathered from various online sources through image searches. Photoshopping included coloring details, erasing, and toning. Then everything was put together in InDesign, my preferred method of design work, just because it's what I use everyday at work! I used some gradients on the images where needed and simply created rounded boxes to place the graphics in to add a touch of something different to the rest of the pieces shown below.
These are semi-spoilery to scenes in the story, with a line from the text.
From the precocious children having fun with spaghetti ... had a rough time with this piece as it was the first one
candygramme asked to be added in. I didn't know where to start or how to treat the pieces, and suddenly, the red of the sauce stood out to me. At that point, I decided to play up black and white pallets with only certain colors highlighted. This was done by duplicating layers, turning the back layer black and white, then deleting any areas on the top layer that weren't the color I wanted. Easy peasy!
When Chad is reworking Jensen and about to cause a whole heap of trouble. LOVE Jensen's/Dean's face here :D
And finally, at the end of the story when The Sidekick puts Chad on the naughty stair (oh, my Supernanny loving heart grew three sizes at that part :D). It was fairly rough to find the right images and then actually photoshop him onto the stairs without wanting to break the computer because I was sure I couldn't do it. I like how it turned out in the end, with just the simple photo and tagline :D
