"Hey, your phone," Jared mumbles as he swats at Jensen's back. The guy is turned over to his stomach, face nearly buried in his pillow, and obviously dead to the world.
Grumbling to himself, and at Jensen in annoyance, Jared shuffles across the bed, leans over Jensen's back, and grabs the phone to make it stop. While doing so, his tired eyes snap onto words like homicide and officer and shooting.
Jared gets messages like this all the time. Jensen's in Internal Affairs now; these alerts mean something entirely different.
"Stop snooping," Jensen says as he snatches his phone back.
"I'm investigating," Jared corrects with a small smile.
Jensen matches that smile and tugs Jared down for a slow kiss that doesn't really go anywhere because both their phones go off again and Jensen forces Jared away.
They quickly shower together to save time (at least that's Jensen's excuse) then easily move around one another in silence get ready in silence (they're just tired, Jared tells himself) to get dressed and seem presentable at five in the morning when they've barely slept because they kept each other up for recreational reasons.
At the front door, Jared stops Jensen with his hand coasting down Jensen's arm and squeezing at his elbow. "Good luck today."
Jensen searches his eyes, but doesn't say anything; Jared's been saying this whenever Jensen heads out on a new assignment, just minor worrying about Jensen's interactions with other cops who could be trouble.
"Stop worrying about me," Jensen replies with a quick smirk.
"It's my job."
"That is not your job. You're paid a shitty salary to do more than that."
Jared snorts and leans in to kiss Jensen quickly. "Call it a hobby then."
"Crappy hobby."
Jared ignores the tightness to Jensen's voice. It's been a while now that they've been staying at Jensen's place together, finding each other late at night in between their horrific shifts, but neither is really saying anything more about it.
Once in the hall, they separate, Jared moving towards the front stairwell and Jensen heading towards the back for the parking garage. "Be safe, Jay," Jensen says quickly just before pushing his way through the back exit. Jared smiles at the door swinging shut and gets onto his day.
