I wonder why birthdays are so much less spectacular nowadays.
Is there just less to look forward to? Have birthdays become so much less pronounced that it takes turning over a decade for them really be important? And even then - "oh yay, I'm 50."
Hey, at least next year I get cheaper insurance. Then, maybe, someday after that I'll be married, have kids, then get to celebrate my children's birthdays. And then my wife can force them to realize and celebrate mine.
Why didn't anyone ever say "this is your childhood, enjoy it while it lasts, cause it'll be gone before you know it..."?
I'm reminded of Billy Madison talking to that kid who said "I can't wait to go to highschool" -
to which he replied:
"Don't you say that. Don't you ever say that. Stay here. Stay as long as you can. For the love of God, cherish it!"
